Just so I maybe help somebody in future...
A long time ago I noticed small leak of transmission fluid at back side of the transmission where drive shaft goes into it. Every oil change I was looking at one single drop of the oil right there on the front end of the drive shaft. Finally I got close to 100k miles and one u-joint (rear one) started squeaking every tie when I back up with my taco, so it was time to pull out drive shaft, perfect time for replacing leaking oil seal.
I went to closest Toyota dealer and got my seal. However, they sold me seal part # 90311-40001. After short struggling with removing old seal (did not have seal puller), I tried set the new seal using 36mm socket. Well looks like I messed up new seal since its leaking now more than old one.
So I am about to redo the work, and went today to other Toyota dealership to get same seal.
But today I got new, improved design seal that as it looks seems to be much better.
New seal is part number 90311-A0031.

In my opinion, dealership that sold me old design seal should not do that, after short research I found out that these seals were common issue and that is why Toyota came out with new design.

My car is 2wd, automatic, 4.0, 2007 TRD. One more time... if you getting new seal look for one that is part number 90311-A0031.

I am hoping now, I will get this new seal set nicely and with improved design my transmission will be leak free.

btw Toyota dealership that sold me old design seal will not see me any time in future even they are 5 mins away from my home.

    quick update

New seal is installed over week ago. So far everything is good. No sign of any leak.
Definitely new designed seal seems to be much better design and improved over original seal.

This time around, for seal installation, I used 1.5" plastic coupling that I got in HomeDepot.
Not sure is it because that or seal itself but setting this seal went much easier.

Is this the same part for a manual transmission, 6 speed?
