Whats the torque spec on a 2022 2.7l Tacoma oil Drain plug? And does anyone actually torque there drain plug?......looked online its all over the place from 20-30 ft lbs......trying to find diagram with no luck.... Also do you replace drain plug washer everytime you change oil?

I’ve never used a torque wrench on drain plugs on any of my vehicles. Never had issues.

It's 30ft lbs, but I'd suggest 25ft lbs if you are using a torque wrench.

Honestly, the rule of thumb is just snug. Not super tight, just snug.

After 13 years and 35 or so oil changes mine is still OK.
4L V6 has a flat washer with fiber material on both sides.
    Pretty good quality!
    No never torqued it.

Same for me. Just snug enough but not gorilla tight.

I'm going to find out how messy that drain plug is...before I install my Fumoto Valve.

Sup fumoto guy. No oil related thread is complete without a fumoto guy. At work I’m required to torque to factory specs when doing an oil change but I agree with bishop 25 is good. On my own stuff I just snug it down and call it but doesn’t take much to hit that though. If you snug it to what you think is good then check it with your torque wrench you will probably find you are over torqued little bit.

    I just approximate these and remember 3 numbers: 10, 20, 30

10 being the tiny little metal cap, and honestly I never torque it, just hand snug, that's it

20 is the entire filter housing that I use a torque wrench, but only torque to 17 because I use an extension there, and it might amplify torque a little bit so 17 is good enough

30 is the drain plug, you won't have problem torquing it to 30, jiffy lube always torque it to 60+

Socket extensions don't affect torque wrenches. Even a crow foot doesn't as long as it's aligned perpendicular to the torque wrench handle.

true, but I think most socket extension has some play
so in practice you have to be really meticulous the way you hold the socket get it perfectly perpendicular, so the longer the extension, the more likely that play can either increase or decrease the torque

On my Lexus the trans drain plug only gets 15 ft lbs. I still believe in torque wrenches, and proper spec for things like drain plugs.

That seems very low torque for trans drain plug, maybe the plug is inverted hex and can't take too much torque

14mm head. Most engine oil drain plugs from Honda to Toyota are 25-30 ft lbs. So they are less susceptible to a rookie mistake.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Nothing beats that hot 20 weight coming down with force and not giving two shits what catch pan you've got then proceeding to splash out everywhere. I was reminded of that this past weekend. Fumoto type would definitely be nice solution for that.

I'm gonna wait until the last Toyota Care Oil change is complete before I install the valve...which is my 20K Mile service in December.
