hello.... change my oil today and I had a "brain fart" I couldn't remember the direction the gasket goes... to the best of my knowledge the thick side goes towards the pan and the thin flat side goes towards the drain plug....correct?
looked online and got different opinions!

I generally put the flat side of the washer toward the pan and the rounded edge side toward the bolt. The important thing is to regularly check your oil level and inspect for drips and you should be fine,

The rounded side of the crush washer is designed to deform to fit. The large flat side goes to the bolt as the bolt is flat all the time. The “crush” helps make somewhat true surface out of one that isn’t.

I came to the conclusion that the round side goes towards the pan because the pan is not always perfectly flat where the thin flat side goes towards the bolt because of the bolt is perfectly rounded flat

Honestly, if it's snug, it really doesn't matter.

I don't know. My original is still stuck to the pan with paint. I do see some blue when I wipe it off. 160k miles.
