Wish I could help you but they changed things up in 2020 and so I'm not sure what's different. Almost seems like Entune was updating and disconnected part way through. I can't speak from experience though. The dealership would be the easiest way to go, especially for a truck that's (presumably) under warranty.

I have been getting this message for the past two weeks. The only way that I can update Entune is to select the option to delete all personal information. So I do that. Then Entune updates and says that it has updated. Yay!! I have to then reset my radio presets (no big deal) and re-connect my phone to the truck (again, no big deal).

Then the next day I startup my truck and the same message shows up again. WTF? I've done this twice in the past week...so now I have given up and just press the OK button and go on my merry way...

My 21 does that every now and then, seems to correct itself, never been a consistent problem, does it clear when you push "OK'?

Yes it does clear when I hit OK, it comes back next time I turn my truck on again. Not a big deal it is just annoying.

We shouldn't have to settle, there has to be a way to correct this. I'm hoping the dealership will have some answers. Ill post what I find out.

OK - so, I found this page:

    https://www.jackdromey.org/how-to-reset-toyota-entune/
    1. I turned off Bluetooth on my phone.
    2. I deleted the Toyota app from my phone.
    3. I deleted personal data from Entune.
    4. Entune updated (again).
    5. I turned Bluetooth back on on my phone.
    6. I paired the phone to my truck (again).
    7. I reset my radio presets (again).
    8. I reloaded the Toyota app on my phone from the Play Store (again).
So far, so good. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning...:fingerscrossed:

I drove the truck around town several times today and the "Download error" message has not reappeared...I think that this problem may be solved (for now)...:woot:

Exactly the same thing is happening to me. I reached out to toyota Corp and they basicly said to head to the dealer.

When getting the error described, we recommend ensuring that your Toyota app is logged in and connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth. You may do this by following these steps:
    1. Ensure that your phone is paired to the vehicle via Bluetooth and not connected to the vehicle via USB cable
    2. Download the Toyota app and sign in to your account using your email or mobile number
    3. On the Toyota app, scroll to the 'Connect Your Accounts' section
    4. Click on 'Connect Now'
    5. Click on 'Connect'
After following these steps, you should see a screen on your phone that says "Vehicle connected via Bluetooth". Check again to see if you are continuing to get this error message on the vehicle screen or if you are prompted to complete an Entune update download. If prompted for the download, click on 'Download Now' and then 'Install'.

If you are continuing to get this error message after following these steps, we recommend contacting your local Toyota dealer for further troubleshooting and ensuring that all software in the vehicle is up to date.

I think the issue is resolved. I logged out of the Toyota app and deleted it. Reloaded it onto my phone and then connected with Bluetooth. Relogged back into the Toyota app and I haven't seen the error message since. Lets cross our fingers.

Not even sure why the error occurred in the first place. The 2020 doesn't even utilize Entune for the entertainment system.

    Oh look, another mod....
Now, I didn't follow ALL the steps listed above. But... When I un-installed the Toyota app from my phone (I wasn't near the truck at the time), then re-installed it. This morning I hopped in to drive to work and I didn't get an error message!

    Hopefully it stays fixed.:fingerscrossed:

Update (as of 09/11/2021 @ 4:45pm) the issue has not happened again. I am 98% sure that the issue was with the Toyota app, not my radio, Entune, the phone or blue tooth.

Uninstall & ReInstall for the win!

^^^ This...I am beginning to suspect that the problem was with an update to the Toyota app all along...

I remember getting a notification on my phone to update the Toyota app, I clicked to update but the app is up to date message. Just Uninstalled it, and reinstalled, now it says it's up to date, and no message on the truck.

I'm getting this msg on the head unit of my 2021 Sport but it's infrequent and totally random. I click OK and it doesn't come back for weeks, then one day it will re-appear. Will have to try deleting and re-installing the app.

That's exactly what mine was doing, then the message was consistent every time I started the truck

I checked my phone this morning and saw that the Toyota app had crashed twice in the past 2 weeks - on 8/31/21 and again on 9/7/21...still no recurrence since the app was deleted and reinstalled...
