As far as I know the DC joint is not serviceable, which is why you can't find parts anywhere. I have heard of some folks custom machining spicer u-joints to fit, but never heard of someone fixing the ball.

Someone might be able to correct me, but I think your best bet is a scrapyard driveshaft, new shaft from toyota, or have a driveline shop build you a custom shaft.

You will need to measure the ball/ball stud as there were several sizes used.
The kit will likely only be found at driveline shops.

This thread contains both technique and sources. New sources were found over the years, towards the end.

The OEM Cardan joint [edit: is at best, extremely difficult to service yourself]. I did the same thing. What is your engine and transmission?2.4, 2.7 or 3.4? manual or auto?

Go to this website. This is what you want to buy but make sure that you go to the home page and enter your truck info This comes with serviceable cardan and greaseable u joints.. I have it and @1997tacomav6 has one and recommended me this. Has been great just make sure you keep up on greasing the zerks

edit I have a single cab so not this exact one, but you get it.

Read the link in post 4. Better driveline shops do this all the time. I have talked several folks thru it online. I can buy the parts locally over the counter at two locations.

okay I suppose one can devise a way to do it, or you can get one that’s made to be serviceable so you don’t have to go through all that. :notsure:. I’m glad I did it. One of the very few criticisms I have of the truck. Also I have a regular cab without one of those carrier bearings. Maybe the cardan is slightly different, but I tried every way to disassemble mine and gave up. Then it was:spending::burnrubber:. Now I can actually service mine if needed with ease.

I have found having a Good Drive Shaft shop is great it would be different if rebuilt them all the time.

Take parts pick them up in a few days .

Since I see so many different Cardan joints I am not sure if the ones Toyota uses need to be cut off to be serviced or not then welded back on.

It's not a hard job at all, just different.
Knowing what you are doing is the key.
I started servicing Spicer's almost 60 years ago and the 1st gen Koyo takes maybe 15 minutes longer.

That pretty much fits any job knowing how to do the job.
