The plastic coating to one of my tailgate cables is damaged full length and the metal cable inside is rusting a little. Rockauto has the Dorman 38545 to be the replacement for a 2006 Tacoma. But the Dorman cables are 1" longer (mounting hole to hole) than the OEM cables so the Dormans cause the tailgate to slam the bumper. I am returning the cables to Rockauto tomorrow.

Has anyone replaced their tailgate cables with Dorman brand and had any issues? The Toyota OEM cables are $30 each. The Dormans are $8 each but don't fit. I'll go by our nearest Toyota parts department this week and see if their replacement is the correct length.

That is the correct Dorman number. They are supposed to be 12.5 inches long. It is very possible as well that the cables you have are packaged incorrectly.

The Dorman cables are 12-1/2" from hole to hole but are about 13-1/2" overall.

My OEM cables are about 11-1/2" hole to hole and 12-1/2" overall.

Odd I would receive two Dorman 38545 cables packaged individually and both be exactly an 1" too long.

Wasn't sure if you got them packaged separately or not. Just offering possible reasons. It does say on their listing the size of the cables. Perhaps they are manufactured incorrectly? Only way to figure this out would be to contact Dorman, or wherever you got them from.
