I recently bought the Door Sill Plate's for my 2016. The instructions online say to "Remove the Scuff Plates first." I'm not sure why I would remove them as the Door Sill Plates aren't near the Door Scuff Plates (They are separated by the rubber door seal).
Also, under "Required Tools", a heat gun is listed. Nowhere in the instructions does it tell you to use a heat gun.
This looks like a simple "peel and stick" procedure...am I wrong? Does anyone have experience with this?
    Thanks!

pop the scuff plate off completely then you can just undo the bottom part of the rubber seal and kinda push it aside without taking the whole thing off. i think the wet method would be easiest allowing you to slide it around into perfect position and also letting you push any bubbles out. otherwise its a one time shot once it sticks.

Not sure what you mean by "wet method"? Isn't this a simple "peel and stick" adhesive...?

It is. Wet method like when you install vinyl stickers or window tint. You spray soapy water on the surface and the back of the sticker allow it to slide around and be positioned once laid on the surface. Then once it's in the ideal position you push or squeegee the water out along with any bubbles. As the water is removed the adhesive kicks in. You can peel and stick also it's up to you.

Wet method is definitely the way to go. I did it a few days ago and it worked perfectly. Just use a lot of soapy water (3-4 drops of dawn per 6 oz water in a spray bottle) and it'll slide right under the rubber seal. No need to remove the scuff plates. Make sure to spray both the truck sills and the adhesive side of the protector.

Are you talking about installing this black plastic piece that I've added the vinyl stickers to..??

Don't they come standard in the US... They are standard in Canada...! Like mud flaps.

No need to pop off the scuff plate. Using the wet method and spraying both the sill protector and the bare step allowed me to slide the sill protector into place.

Also, I invested in a 98 cent squeegee from ebay. That came in handy as I was able to effectively press out all the bubbles (and excess soapy water) for the entire length of the protector.

I didn't remove the scuff plate either, it will slide underneath, especially if you use the wet method.

I'm concerned the "wet method" will dissolve the glue and make it ineffective?

If you're worried about using the wet method just do it dry. An extra set of hands will help too. I actually did it dry because I didn't want to mess with water, so I had my hubby help me mark exactly where I wanted it to sit and while I lightly put down one end, he held the other end until I positioned it just so ( that way it is easier to pull back up if you don't like the position) and then pressed down once I had it where I wanted it. Water will not ruin the adhesive and will make it easier especially if you are doing it by yourself. Just squeegee the excess water out, and it will be fine.

Will be fine using regular dawn or palmovlive dish soap, maybe avoid the ones with extra degreaser and all that.

yeah, those will be ok, just dilute it, doesn't need to be like washing greasy dishes. just enough to create a slippery surface.
