Ok, so the weatherstripping I posted above works out very well considering the price difference. The lip is a tad longer than original, which I can trim or find a shorter one. I plan on posting more pics later but for now here are the profiles/ crossections of the new one linked above and the oem original. I’m working on a source for the sponge rope inside the oem but it’s totally possible to re-use that. New on top, old on bottom.

@Rastopher ! Great research, thank you SO MUCH for sharing your information.
@Kristi with a K Thanks for bringing up the subject.

I was not aware there is a sponge "rope" inside the existing OE door seal.

As I press the full length of the existing OE door seal it seems that there is sponge "rope" inside some sections of the hollow tube, and other sections remain hollow. The "rope" is not continuous. Perhaps only at high impact "pinch points"? Any one else checked this out?

If it is not continuous then it would be difficult to properly place replacement "rope" in a hollow (new) seal. It would prove challenging even to feed a continuous rope through the length of the seal's hollow tube (like trying to feed a cooked spaghetti through a drinking straw?). Perhaps feeding a "fish" wire through the tube and pulling the "rope" through?

I have been using a product to temporarily (6 years!) repair the part of my driver's door seal that is torn up (just like the left edge of the driver's seat, it got torn up through repeated entries and exits.) This product could maybe function as the "rope" inside the seal's hollow tube? Here is the product, which I purchased at O'Reilly Auto Parts:

I have a link for the real deal insert, but it’s on my other laptop. I’ll post it tomorrow.

Good initiative! Some people have used that, and probably with some success. But (unless I have fundamentally misunderstood) it’s not the right material. The material isn’t closed cell rubber for repeated crush and release, so it would probably fall apart very quickly. Here’s an alternative that is pretty much exactly the real deal: https://www.grainger.com/product/TRIM-LOK-INC-Rubber-Seal-10G532?opr=APPD&analytics=altItems_10G523

Glad i can help! The insert is in the top corners, i’ll get a picture or two tonight.

So I was close. Just missing that extra flap. Good find. Thank you for picking up the mission. Leaf springs, wheel bearing & power steering pump have held me hostage.... Just ordered front diff bushings.... & I'm not sayin' you're just sittin' around twiddlin' your thumbs.... simply, thank you....

Thanks! Even if it's not weatherstrip, sounds like a good roadtrip

Looks like they used it to replace the section on the bottom, but not all the way around. It makes sense.

I didn't take it that way. Just that they doubled up on the bottom by using an extra (leftover) piece. You could be right though.
Did you get any further with what you were trying? I have backshelved this long enough....

What I bought works, but it isn’t what I would call a good fit. It takes a bunch of trimming, it’s about 1.5 mm too large in every dimension.
