Ordered some sill protectors from a Toyota dealer. The installation instructions say to removed the door scuff plates and weather strip. (These instructions showed that they were for a 2016.) I did not see a way to remove the scuff plate. I asked the dealer how and he e-mailed me back saying "The technical diagrams are not showing any connections or screws of any kind. Must be an adhesive which is industrial strength". Does anyone know for sure how to get the scuff plates off?

They pull off, but you do not need to remove them in order to install the stick on protectors. Just get door sill area wet with dishwashing soap & water mix. You can then slide the protector under the trim if you so desire.

Don't slide them too far up under the weather strip as you won't have enough to loop over the door edge. I ordered the Toyota brand model for my '16 DC. Installation was a piece of cake. Just be sure you have thoroughly cleaned the door panel with an adhesive/wax remover. I then peeled the top edge adhesive cover back about 1/4-1/2 inch, got it exactly where I wanted, and slowly removed the rest of the cover pressing hard with a rag to remove any air bubbles. If you were to get an air bubble, just use a sewing needle to puncture the bubble and then smooth it out.

FYI: I think they look great against my white paint. I wanted the Toyota/Tacoma brand on mind and obviously paid more. But, you can get a generic set at O'Reilly's (and other parts stores) for around $12 - $15.

As you work the water out from under the protectors they start to stick in place. Start in the center and work your way out to the ends. You have to push down hard to work the air and water bubbles out. Get the top stuck in place good before you roll down the sides. As you roll down the sides it wont stick down in place until the water is gone. I used a hair dryer on high blowing under the flap to heat up the vinyl and drive the water out while working the vinyl down from the center out to both ends. Just keep going back and forth on the edge slowly working your way down. I used a wad of paper towels to push down on and slide over the vinyl. It has the advantage of sopping the excess water you push out from under the vinyl. I wouldn't do this job when its cold out.

I find doing something as thick as the sill protectors its better to not use soapy water, harder to get the water completely out. I just peel small piece of the backing paper back and fold it under. You can line it up and stick the small corner, then peel the paper back as you are sticking it down. The scuff plates just pull up like others had said

That's correct but I didn't want to lift up the plastic scuff plates as I wanted to line up my sill protectors with the indent marks on the scuff plate. I am "anal" and wanted them exactly in the same position on both sides. You could do the same by using a piece of tape as the starting point mark as well.
