Hello, I’ve had a problem with my 1st gen passenger side door. Whenever I try to open the door it locks itself. Is this a problem anyone else has had success trying to fix? I’ve already changed the door handle and lock and it didn’t fix the problem.

there are a few things it could be but the most common is the latch mechanism is filled with old hard grease and dirt. Some people have had success with just hosing it off with WD-40 or other spray. A second issue is the the rods could be slightly tweaked from trying to overcome the dirty latch. The third could be the rod guide from the interior handle to the assembly. When you take the interior door panel off it will be easier to understand how it all inter-relates.

This is a hard call to make without being up close and in person.
The door is unlocked when you start this endeavor ??

What keeps the just unlocked door from locking again when you lift the handle what are you doing different??

My guess is either linkage is bent causing this mechanically !!

The movement of the door handle via linkage is closing the lock circuit locking the door.

Your unlocking the door with the key and not a remote ?

I know exactly what you're talking about my, buddies passenger door did this. Pull off the door panel and clean up the mechanism. And one of his clips on the one of the rods was broken off as well. Can't remember which one.

Thanks guys I’ll take off the door panel and try and see if anything is bent. But to wyoming09 yes I start with the door unlocked and I’m unlocking with both key and remote it does the same thing.

    The Bed is stock...ish
My door lock would lock when opening too. I soaked the door latch and associated part on the inside the door... super easy fix.

Sounds just like the problem with mine. Same side and same problem. I took the door panel off and began trying to figure it out. Turned out to be a bent arm that would push down the door lock when the handle was lifted up. All I needed to do was take a long screw driver and push the arm back away from the door lock. It might take a little studying to figure it out but it does work. Haven't had a problem with mine since I fixed it. Hope this helps some.
