Was in the UK recently and a friend there owns a small service business and on his vans he has plates at the handles to thwart entry via pry-tool.

I know that here in the US, GM trucks suffered from thieves easily gaining access this way but I honestly don't know if it's an issue for us and if they are even available. Regardless, if anyone of you are familiar with a product like this for 2nd gen Tacoma's I'd be interested to hear from you about where to get them. In my search I did come upon the "SlickLocks" site which sells a simple bolt on tab assembly that allows me to use some of the puck locks that I already have but they don't list a part for the Tacoma and they haven't replied to my inquiry about them yet.

We already have an alarm and we try to hide "smash and grab" type items but since we intend to travel to Tierra del Fuego and back with this truck I'm always looking at ways to passively increase our security. Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can offer.

A thief can always break a window or if there is a rear slider, that can be opened in less than a minute with a simple piece of wire.

What he said. My last truck had a switch that turned off fuel and spark. Even with key on it won't start.

Using a punch or pry tool thieves go through the sheet metal around the handle assembly to bypass the lock. These plates harden that area and make it much more difficult for thieves to accomplish their goal. We have already installed an alarm, a positive lock on our rear slider, etched the VIN on all glass, and anti-smash security film on all glass as well. The Flippac is an obvious weak link as like most other fiberglass tops they offer limited security. Items in the bed are bolted down or locked in bolted hard cases.

You can also get a door pop system that automatically opens your door without using the door handle. That way you can disconnect the inside lever for the handle and only use the key chain to open

Even with alarm systems. People don't even pay attention to them any more. So many cars with sensitive alarms that go off cause cars with loud exhaust, or loud systems, thunder, or whatever the case. Most people have engorged it all together

Even with the best alarm system and "anti pry plates" lol
I can still get in your truck and drive off with it. It starts to become ignorance focusing on one little thing that doesn't help.

Looks like "full bezel" door handle designs are vulnerable, whereas the "bare handle" design used in the 2nd gen Taco (and pretty much all modern Toyotas) don't have the weak pry points, so no one makes reinforcements plates for them. Jimmi Jammer made Civic plates up to the 2000 model year. Honda stopped using the "full bezel" design starting in 2001.

Oh, and there are plenty of valuable parts thieves can strip from your truck without getting into the cab. Wheels, catalytic converters, tow hitch...

^Yea it's a very marginal case the products are catering to.

Wonder if one of these circular glass cutting tools will cut automotive glass without making noise:

Auto glass cannot be cut. I would have expected someone as amazingly well informed as you apparently are to know that. Makes me wonder who the ignorant one is.
