I have been looking at sliders now for a while for my 2016. Because of cost between all the fabricators on here I have decided on cbi offroad. my question is how much better is dom over hrew? I see a lot of people touting dom, but do I need it? I do plan on starting some light offroading and working up but definitely not any hard rock crawling. DOM upgrde on cbi sliders overkill or not? $100 upgrade. Thanks for the help

Definitely go DOM over anything else. They are made to support the weight of your truck.

HREW will also support the weight of your truck just fine. The difference is HREW will dent easier so if you plan on wheeling hard then DOM is probably the way to go. I know three Jeep guys who wheel really hard and they only use HREW. To them sliders are disposable so when they get too beat up they just buy new. Of course Jeep sliders are 1/4 of the cost of Taco sliders.

I've hit my HREW sliders many MANY times. I wheel a DCLB so without sliders there aren't a lot of trails I could even get through in my area. I have no dents. Lots of scratches, marks, and even one or two small cuts but nothing has dented on the tubing.

Don't get me wrong, DOM is definitely stronger than HREW tubing, but unless you plan on throwing your truck over rocks you probably aren't going to notice the difference before either version rusts out. Quite often you'll end up setting yourself down on the slider without the full weight of the truck resting on that point and then pull yourself off. At least that's what happens 90% of the time when I end up using mine. I went with HREW because I needed sliders quickly and Demello had a set of painted HREWs all packed up and ready to go for me when I called. I have no regrets.

My slider also has a boxed section that often touches first before the tubing. I noticed the CBI version is all tubing. In your case DOM maybe better because of that.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going with mobtown so I'll be getting the DOM. 20% off so I'm getting them shipped for around $600. Cheaper than cbi by about $200 but they ship to a terminal and I'll have to find a powder coater. I'll wait a bit longer but mobtown has answered any questions I had quickly through pm's on this site. About to put in the order as we speak!
