    Hi All Tacoma Lovers!
I've had my Off Road 4x4 model for a few weeks now and have yet to load my dogs into it. Trying to find a way to keep them from potentially falling into that silly little well in between the rear seats.
Has anyone come up with anything? I tried purchasing a "PetDek" but it did not fit due to the cup holder for rear passengers in the center console. I have a pet hammock on order but not really sure that is going to work either. Again that little storage well might still be a problem.

    Thoughts? Suggestions??

    Cheers,
    TravelChic13

I wish I could help but I put mine in Dog Crates in the bed of the truck. If it is cold and/or wet I use the Kennel Insulators. Dog crates are also safer for everyone involved in case of an accident.

there are a few options you can go with. all of which are going to be break out the saws and make a custom platform. they are very easy to do also. ive built a couple of versions and my dog does just fine.

Mine is in the bed. Kennel strapped in position, door off, facing foreard.. Dog tether attached to chain running across bed right behind cab. She can move form side to side outside of the kennel, or go into her kennel at her discretion.
Too many years of severe dog hair and dog smell in vehicle and on me.
Snugtop goes on this week. She will have free rum.

I've made this doggy platform in the back seat in my last four P/U's = My dogs say they love it!
If you're little bit handy with wood you can cut a 3/8" plywood, to fit from the back of the front seat (suggest you slid them back) to the front of your back seat. Then close one back door and measure from the arm rest to the edge of the seat opposite side. Cut you 3/8" plywood that size. Put in place and close both doors, you need a inch or two so the doors don't hit when finished. Cut or round off corners. Using 1x4" boards, set on edge, make a frame for support. I usually set mine in about 1.5" -2.0" front & sides only, back support should go close to back edge. Put in place, close doors double check to make sire they don't hit plywood. Then hold, so it looks level. Measure from bottom of plywood to floor of truck. Cut 2 legs that length, for front only, they go inside the front corners. The back will be resting on the back of the rear seat. I use screws and some wood glue but screws should hold it. Make sure aren't too long. Go to Lowes P/U cheap carpet (close match of course) big enough cover the plywood & the legs. Square it up on F. frame board, underneath side and wrap plywood with carpet, pulling it tight, using a stapler to hold it in place. Cut off access and use it to cover legs. Installing = Slide you front seats fwd., hold your doggy platform on edge (90 degrees with back seat) slide it in, lay it down. Done deal. == If need to haul humans, slide F. seats fwd. flip up, lift out. ===I'm a ole fart and I care handle it, no problem. It's also great for all your shopping needs, plus bad guys can't see inside. I made a small frame with left over plywood with 2 holes for water & food bowels for long trips. I keep them next to L. rear door so I can clean up their food when we stop for a "sniff & pee" break. You might want to keep a lid handy for the water as it tends to spill out. === Good luck, your dogs will love it.

Thanks JPNeely! The links were very helpful. And I agree that the TOYOTA embroidered one is the best. Now I just have to find a handyman to help me out! :(

This is help for me also. I just doing have a way to cut the wood. Think home depot would cut it for me if I give the measurements?

The carpet is just glued with spry adhesive and should be easy to do.

OP: Nice looking truck - I really like the color.

Last year I built a dog platform in my AC. It was pretty straightforward and took only an afternoon (minus the visit to the doctor - sliced my thumb pretty bad). I decided to take out the seats and center console so the platform would be at a lower height for the dogs to jump into the truck. The storage compartments are accessible - just have to pull back the carpet.

I have two Portuguese Water Dogs and they both are comfy. However, I would agree that the safest way to transport a dog is in a secure crate.

I know they do a couple of cuts for free. they mainly just have saw that does straight long cuts, so if youre doing two pieces that are pretty much just square or rectangular, then they should be able to do it. if not, some places do a tool rental program and you could rent the tool you need and just bring it back after you make all the cuts you need. I didn't go fancy on mine so I have two separate platforms (one for each side) and they are basically just rectangles with a short length of 2x4 as the front leg and the back side just sits on the storage area. I did it this way so that the platform could slide forward and back as I adjust the front seats. and as far as the carpet goes, I was lazy and didn't glue it, I just stretched it thin and stapled it underneath. its holding well so I cant complain. I usually have the dog bed in there too so the pup doesn't even really come in contact with the platform.

    Thanks.

I didn't even think about renting the saw. That's a good idea "thank you".

I have a big pitbull and I think one solid board would be best. I like having the platform for when we go shopping also. I don't like always putting stuff in the bed.

I miss my 2006 where the seat folded over flat. But this will work just fine. Any ideas where I can get the carpet in a gray?

you can check lowes or home depot for carpet too. they usually have a decent assortment. the solid platform would be perfect, but sometimes i have someone ride in the back when i cant put the dog in the bed (too much crap sometimes) and i still need one side to have it. otherwise, id have the full platform too. the first one i made i just carpeted with old towels that i had laying around. i also really wish that toyota would have gotten their heads out of their asses and kept the design from the 2006s where the back seat folded flat. the way they are designed for ours is just asinine. theres literally no improvement in this design over the 2006s.

I agree, I feel is less of a design. It was much better before. No one sits back there for a long period of time that needs a full seat.

I'm going to try and make this platform on sunday. I will post a few pics on how I do it and how it comes out.
