Last week we were so lucky to adopt a 3 yr old Mini GoldenDoodle. It seems his previous human let him sit on his lap while driving, not a safe situation for both of us. So now I'd like to know what other pet owners are using for a barrier to keep their canine friends in the back seat.We do have the hammock style rear set cover that is secured between the front and rear head rests, but that isnt much of a deterence. When my wife and I go out with him she prevents him from getting in the front, but if there is just one of us in the truck, not much chance of him staying in the backseat.I know that he will eventually catch on,but for now we need some kind of a barrier.TIA.

I've had some kind of netting that went between the headrests on my wife's Forester. It worked well, but doesn't last very long if they chew on it. There are also metal fence like barriers that mount to the headrest pillars. Lots of options if your search for "dog car barrier"

Kurgo Harness and seatbelt buckle strap

keeps both the lab and the Dutch shepherd in their respective seats, is safer in a crash as the harness and the straps are crash rated, and still allows their noses out the window if they choose

I was just ordering dog seat belts bc I have terrible untrained monsters that think they’re lap dogs. The backseat hammock thing isn’t enough for them to stay back there.

I’m hoping the seat belts are enough otherwise I’ll get that netting from Raingler or whatever it’s called that creates that berrier.

I have one dog that has been perfectly fine in the back his whole life with no deterrent. The other dog will try to get into the front. Eventually he'll settle down but with a manual it's tough to battle him to stay in the backseat and shift gears.

I have a harness for him. Two kinds. One is just a quick collar that we use around town. Hooks to the rear headrest and attaches to his collar.

The other is a full harness from Ruffwear that clips into the seatbelt for road trips. He's pretty ok to wear both. Gets grumpy but settles down quick. The harness is a hassle to get on him so that's the reason we only use it on long trips.

Easily transferred between both our vehicles.

I thought about getting the full net divider from Raingler (https://raingler.com/products/2016-...ax-crew-cab-behind-front-seat-barrier-divider) but we routinely have people in the back and didn't want them to feel like they're in jail. Ha. And we'd need to buy one for the 4Runner and the Tacoma.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Been hauling Black Labradors for nigh on 20 years. It's so easy for us to forget the accident ramifications for our beloved bowzers. My boys have all been devoted duck hunters and travel insane miles during that time but then almost everyday, every where, out of season. In the pick up bed, always in a kennel. In the back seat, on a good hammock and "most of the time" with a seat belt lanyard on a harness. Admitedly, now I often forget the latter part. In my case, my boys never encroach on the front cockpit because that's just training and their discipline. Nowadays, Stu is a sucker for the occasional In & Out French Fry so there is an occasional incursion into the no go zone but he gets a pass on those occasions.
