    Nothing major yet.
I want to see how the clearance is with a stock 2019 Tacoma trd off-road with 285/70r17 Nitto ridge grapplers with no lift. I plan to run method NV 17x8.5 and if anyone has experience with this size, it would help.

Nitto makes the Trail Grappler in a 285/70R16 which is 32" tall by 11.5" wide. I had them on my truck for a while because I wanted the extra width but didn't want to chop the cab mount to make them fit. They're basically a wider version of a 265.

Only downside is it is the only tire made in that size, nobody else makes a 285/70R16 that I've found.

The quick research I’ve done shows that that the 285/70r16 and 265/75r16 are basically the exact same size, except the 265 is .1” taller.

The 285 is also 1 inch wider. So it has the potential to rub more, but I didn't have to trim much when I went to those from 265s.

I have 285/70/17s NRGs on stock suspension, but with a leveled front end.

    tire sizing explained -
All tire sizes are nominal. Meaning they are not exact and usually based off an inflated tire mounted on a wheel with a specific width.
Some manufacturers measure from the shoulder, some edge of tread, some just guess
285 represents the section width in mm so it is 11.22. You can do the same math dividing your section width by 25.4
The 70 represent a ratio for the section width. This means that the shoulder height is 70% of the shoulder width so a 285/70 would have a 7.8" sidewall section (11.2x70%)
To get height you double the section width because you have two then add the wheel diameter which is conveniently already in inches. so a 285/70 16 is 31.7" tall

Life is easier now with the internet that you can find various calculators that do the math for you more quickly, but it really helps to know the math behind the numbers when you start to look at other options.

No, they're an inch wider. I have personally owned Cooper STT Pro 265/75R16s, the Nitto Trail Grappler 285/70R16s, and General Grabber ATXs in 305/70R16. The 265s are roughly 32x10.5" while the 285s are roughly 32x11.5". The 265 and 285 is the width of the tire in millimeters. The sidewall on the 265 is 75% of the tread width, while the 285 sidewall is only 70% of the tread width, resulting in the same overall diameter.

EDIT: Just realized a couple others have already answered.

Oh shoot I wrote 75. I meant 70, sorry for the typo. I fixed the other post. I haven't owned 285/75R16s, just the oddball 285/70R16 trail grapplers. You can see the size on the sidewall in this pic.IMG_20181027_134545.jpg

Surprised you have no issues with that size on stock suspension.

I did, in post #4 I said I didn't have to trim much going from 265s to the short 285s. But I did have to trim plastic even for the 265s with the -12 offset of the Ray10s.

I also lifted the front 1.75" with 5100s before I put the Nittos on. At full stuff they touched the top of the front fender flares but I wasn't too worried about it. With stock wheels you will probably rub the UCAs with the inside of the 285/70s if you don't run spacers.
