I had toyota confirm I it was the head gasket. I got in a fender bender which broke the coolant bypass pipe, and it never over heated but I definitely ran it while it was low. After installing the metal bypass my oil started to disappear, but the coolant held pretty steady. Now three years down the road I'm experiencing all of the head gasket failure symptoms.
I bought the gasket, head bolts, and got the schematics from toyota and am looking for other parts I will want to replace. I bought a haynes manual, but I would really love a walk through to see what tools are needed. My bro will need to bring them home for the long weekend project. I found the walkthrough for the 1997 2.7 gasket replacement, but don't know how how much that would help with my 2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've always had luck with this site. Also doing the fuel pump the same time RIP:annoyed::spending:

    Head gasket replacement parts/info:
    - Toyota Coolant Compatible Seal Packing 08826-00100 - Where this is used
    - Mahle .030" MLS gasket - (my stock gasket was .020" thick and I had the machine shop remove .010" so I could use this .030" gasket. Your replacement head gasket should account/add back for the material removed when having your cylinder head resurfaced)
    - Useful links/threads:
    - 2TR-FE 2.7L dirty coils
    - 2TR-FE Rebuild/Refresh

With 205k My 09 2.7 was quoted 27 hours for the labor to replace the head gasket from 3 diffrent shops.
I got it done & overwith. They tore it down quite a bit.

Yes this is for the 05-15 2.7L 2TR-FE engine. They were a bear for me to find as well

I wrote all these parts down and am gonna head back to the dealer tomorrow. I really appreciate it, you will be saving me a ton of time. I edited my comment too late, but were there any special tools that stood out in your memory. My bros gonna have to bring a lot of them home, and I am trying to be as prepared as possible.
Also what did you do to get the harmonic balancer off?

Ya I watched this, it was the truck that was probably being used to snow plow. I think 05 had a weak gasket to begin with, and when I cracked my coolant bypass pipe, though I never over heated, it likely put more stress on it. Plus the 80k before my truck could have been rough, and I offroaded the piss out it when I first got it lol

I believe you need a 14mm 12pt socket to remove the head bolts. You’ll also want to order new ones of those since they’re torque to yield. I opted for ARP head studs, but that’s overkill for an NA motor.

for the harmonic balancer, I used a stubby impact and removed it that way. One time I do remember needing a 3 jaw puller to get one off that was stuck. You can borrow one of those from autozone if you don’t have one

Already got the head bolts from the dealership. No impact, might see if I can borrow one somewhere. Does the AC have to come off?

Compressor has to be removed from the timing cover but not disconnected. Same for the power steering pump. Leave all of that connected and just move it out of the way
