Do your buttons light up at night? Specifically in year 2005 and 2013. I'm upgrading wheels and can't wait till I get it installed to know.....

2013 does for sure. I am pretty sure they all do. You just can't see cup holders or anything else at night

Just change your dash lights. Easy if you can solder.

Mine have all been TRD's. Not saying they don't light up, I'm just saying I never noticed.

I think white would have looked fine, the problem is the steering wheel lights are not white, they are PALE GREEN. I just wish Toyota would have done a full white led interior instead of white/green on 13's. I was going to swap all green out to white but the ATRAC switch, Auto window switch and having to mess with the steering wheel just led me to settle on the whole white/green theme.

I retract this statement. My steering wheel definitely lights up. Learn something new (or remember at least) every day!

This reply got me thinking, so i looked into it, but all the write-ups i can find dont specifically say how you actually do the soldering-- instead they tell you how to get to the lights and then just say "solder the lights in and put it back together".

What do you physically solder? are there little contact points you connect to the board, or just one big bead in the middle, or what? Any pics anyone has of this or a really good write up would be awesome.. Im not scared to rip that dash apart.....

There are contact points on each side of the LED. I'll try find the write up I used. It's real straight forward though. Just have to make sure the polarity is right when you solder in the new ones

The one thing that doesn't light up is the one thing that I use every time I drive the truck. The ignition. Even with the overhead light turned on I can't see it. That pisses me off !

I was surprised to see the little light ring around the ignition missing, too. Needless to say there are scratch marks all around that sucker now...

I also wish the 4X4 knob was lit. It's just not worth it enough to me do the 4Runner knob swap.

I toyed with the idea of retrofitting a 4Runner lit ring in my 2013 Tacoma, but apparently the rings are not sold separately, or at least I couldn't find one in a parts catalogue. I tried to see if a 3rd gen ignition ring would work but its a tad small in diameter. It would have to be heavily modified/sanded to make it fit. Even if you don't take off the steering wheel column plastic you can see there is a black plastic ring around the ignition that once removed could be perfectly replaced by the right diameter ring. The black plastic however covers a copper coil of some sorts that I thing is related to the key chip, but idk?

One day if I can find a wrecked 5th gen 4Runner I'll see if I can snag an ignition ring and retrofit it. Should match up. People have put 3rd gen 4Runner rings in 1st gen tacomas just fine so I'd figure a 4th or 5th gen ring would match up with a 2nd gen Tacoma.

I wanted to do the 4Runner knob mod but ~$70 is just not in my range for a 4x4 knob to be lit lol.

EDIT: What do you know I just did a search on eBay, and picked up a 4th gen 4Runner ignition cylinder with the full immobilizer which includes the clear bezel! So once I receive it will give modding a shot, hopefully it is same diameter as the Tacoma black bezel.
