Do toppers that fit 2nd gen fit 3rd gen

Anyone able to tell me if an Are topper 6 ft. from a 2nd gen fit a 3rd gen truck. Im ordering a new truck and located a topper for a good price.

I believe they are an inch different in height from bed to the roof and the gen3 has the pronounced curve in the tailgate. But the dimensions of the bed are the same. We've had several in our shop as we're building a custom topper for a customer with a gen2.

 

There's a thread here somewhere of someone who put a 2nd gen topper on a 3rd gen. Dunno about brand or anything. Ended up not being the same height as the cab. It's technically doable

 

Bed rails and tailgate are different.

 

is the 3rd gen cab taller or shorter than 2nd? Or is it that the bed is an inch different?

Double check the post noted here, I'd probably get it backwards if I try and remember.

 

Buy an A.R.E. tailgate skirt for the rear hatch. Attach to the 2nd gen hatch and the topper will not have a problem with the 3rd gen tailgate. I am happy with the modification and how my 2nd gen topper fits on my 3rd gen. Not a perfect fit, but works for me. It keeps the bears out of my bed when camping.
