Do some tacomas not come with keyless entry?

Iv been trying to get a key fob programmed for my 01 tacoma and I had a guy tell me there was no system to do one and that my truck never came with one. I just think that’s super odd given that older cars have had them. Does anybody know if they actually didn’t come with them and if not can i still get a system for it thanks

Plenty of them didn’t come with keyless entry. My 2003, for example, has RKE (remote keyless entry) on its build sheet, but I’ve never gotten close to having it enter programming mode.

Every Tacoma I’ve seen or owned with RKE did it with one of the several versions of the port-installed Toyota ViP alarm system. I shoulda kept the TVIP RS3000 system from my 2001 DC…

My 99 has an aftermarket alarm system that has key fobs that was installed by a dealer in like 01. The alarm and remote start don't seem to work and the key fobs only really work to lock the truck, but only open back up maybe 1 in 10 times. One of these days I want to open up the dash and find the brainbox to either take it out and program it right or replace it with a modern one

As far as I know it wasn't a standard feature on all these trucks. If the truck has one it would have been dealer, port or owner installed. My 02 had the keyless entry when I test drove it but it wasn't on the window sticker and when I declined the additional charge the dealer removed it.

You can look for the module, I think it mounts behind the drivers side kick panel. Could be wrong, it's been many years since I installed it.

My base model '04 doesn't have keyless entry or use chipped keys. It has manual crank windows too!

2000 Tacoma 4WD Base - no low gas warning light but it has AC!
Tons of them did not have electric locks, keyless entry, and electric windows. On my 2000 reg cab I have buckets, AC, and that's it. It doesnt even have a low fuel warning light but it has one for low washer fluid oddly enough. I am actually about to add a nice alarm and electric locks from A1 Electric, the "A1 Premium Keyless Entry with Power Door Locks". Pretty nice kit for $135. It just got cold before I could install it...

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
My 2000 does not have Keyless entry.

I am sure that was a Dealer installed option with the Gulf states South Alarm.

When Fred Flintstone bought his first Tacoma he had to insist on an optional heater and a spare tire. Today the public has been sold the idea that options increase the value on resale... but in fact they cost more than you can ever recover at resale. But it's not surprising that a twenty plus year old truck didn't have every option. Back in those days people were smarter than they are today.

My 95 was lucky to come with power locks and windows. My $20 Amazon special keyless entry has treated me amazing though.

I need a link to this. All I want is remote lock and unlock, I don’t even want an alarm or remote start. Just lock and unlock. My key occasionally gets finicky in the drivers door lock cylinder and I’d love to cut down on the wear and tear on it.

Use some graphite lubricant on it.

My 2017 SR’s driver door lock uses a key. No remote.

My '95 Taco doesn't have intermittent wipers. Or a tach. Or power windows. Or power locks.

Introducing another point of failure (keyless entry) into a troublesome operation (door lock) isn't the solution.
Service the lock with a proper lubricant (not graphite).

This is the one I installed, there’s a lot of cheap options and pretty easy as long as you already have power locks. You just splice it into your door lock wiring only takes like an hour in total.
