Do our front brake pads have wear indicators or squeelers?

    Hey all,

Maybe a dumb question thats been answered before.

2014 Tacoma V6 4WD. Do our trucks front pads have audible wear indicators? "Squealers" they are sometimes called. You know, the loud squeal from the pad to tell you its time to replace brake pads?
We do not have a dash light for pads, like a Euro car, right?

I'm at 102,000 miles and have never replaced my brakes. Yeah. I am getting concerned.
No issues, no squeal, no problems..but 102k. Wow.
I may just replace front pads / rotors.

    Thanks

You could always get a set of calipers and measure how much is left on the pads. That's how you know if they need replacing or not. Either way it's time for some new brake fluid too whenever you do put on fresh pads and rotors.

Yes usually squealer tabs on inside pad, sometimes both pads

Pull your wheels off and look. You can easily see pad life through the back of the caliper

Yeah just remove the wheel and check, the calipers have an inspection slot that doesn't require removal.

Squealers are bent portions of a backing shim that when the friction portion of the disk pad is worn produce a 'squealing' sound when driving the truck and applying the brakes!
Please don't ignore and skip the rear brake. The WHOLE system properly functioning is important and your life depends on it!
