    Hello,

I just bought a grille for my 2018 Tacoma. Got an aftermarket TRD grille off eBay which was highly reviewed.

I’m just wondering is the garnish actually necessary? I don’t really like the look of the glass box on the nice matte black grille.
    Cheers

    Depends if you have TSS.

    YMMV.

You don't need it, but without it, the sensor will malfunction when it's raining. A warning will come up telling you to clean the sensor. I am fine with this personally because I hate the look with the garnish.

These newfangled 2018s and 2019s, I tell ya. In my day when we paid out the ass for a plastic grille, that was it, that was all we needed. Now you need garnishes and varnishes and TRD Pro VINs. What is this world coming to..

So if I opt out of the garnish do it still need to remove the plastic slot on the front of the grill? I can’t imagine the sensor will see through it...?

I have the garnish on mine. I don't love it, but it's not terrible imo. My TSS works great but a guy I was talking to yesterday said that his TSS never works. (He also has the garnish)

I didn’t remove anything from my OEM Pro grill and it works fine. Even today it beeped at me when some dickhead pulled out in front of me.

I have TSS on my 2019 and bought a PRO grille without the garnish and I've been ok for 4000 miles now. Don't plan on buying it!

I’m with you. I tried putting all these lemon rinds and parsley and shit on my grille, and the truck never stopped for nuthin. TSS is a joke.

I have eBay pro grill with no garnish on my 2018 and it works as it did before. Rain is fine. With ice it has had the error once about clean sensor. I had that with the factory grill as well. Mine did take 100 miles to adapt to the new grill with the obstruction being in a slightly different place than factory. It gave the clean sensor error for about 100 miles then realized it was the new grill and adjusted and works great.

Not the best picture, but if you zoom in you can see my TEQ badge. I love it, and it's just enough to stand out while still looking classy.

Check out this guy's products. He's great to work with and has since awesome badges.

I don't have the special garnish and left the original piece in but I did put a small piece of clear plexi before I installed the sensor in place. Have had it on like that for 3k and no errors whatsoever

I just put a thin piece of plastic over the sensor (I cut up a license plate holder). I kept getting and error without it. No errors since the install

I too don't have the garnish and drove about 200 miles before it recalibrated itself.

I got an Oem pro grill, and have the garnish. I dont really like the look of it, and I get a clean sensor message when its dumping rain sometimes. Might try without it and just put a piece of plexi/plastic over the sensor for some protection

Just order my grille from toyota but it didn't come with a garnish. I have a 2016 so I the garnish isn't necessary. However, how do I get the plastic one that everyone has? (I'm referring to the one that resemble Suaveflooder and M603holden.)
