I'm going with MOBTOWN for my armor underneath. They don't make fuel skids, they said they feel it is not necessary.

Thoughts? We do some good rock crawling and mountainous terrain...just want to be safe. Thanks!

do you need one ? maybe not

but I drove over a rock wall and was able to wiggle myself off it, and once
on level ground, I saw my gas tank skid punched up into the gas tank and touching it.

so...w/o that skid plate I would have been BONED

OK...if I went with a company like MOBTOWN for everything (they don't make fuel tank skids)...would me buying a fuel tank skid from another company interfere with theirs?

my bad, i just went out and checked mine (never touched it, it looks like metal) i always assumed it was metal due to the look of it, plastic sucks!

IMO... no, but i live in close proximity to windrock, royal blue, black mountain... so the type of wheeling i like is a little different than others, that the stock thing might be fine for some, not me... when im eventually ready for my Mobtown skids, i will be getting a tank skid too.

edit: just saw your reply, i thought mobtown made tank skids? that stinks!

If you look at how the fuel tank hangs relative to the frame and the driveshaft it is not nearly as vulnerable as one might think. You must be hammering on some serious rock gardens if you need a fuel tank skid as the driveshaft is more likely to smack something first.

my Taco will eventually see "Lions Den" at black mountain in Harlan, Ky.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sempWKxUlpI

but then again, by the time that happens... the tank will probably be long gone from that location, ROFL!

I have one and it is the only armor I have on right now. I know two people with Tacomas who've had highway debris puncture their fuel tanks here in AZ.

I was on a very mild trail but pretty far from help when a stick or something came up and broke the plastic quick connect off my gas line in front of the tank. If I didn't have a length of rubber fuel line in my tool box I would have been screwed.

Now I have a gas tank skid which protects those weak fittings too
