I was thinking about swapping a couple of the lights on my bumper to Amber color. From what I have read they are better in fog and dust. Asking for real world experience from people who run them, do they make a big enough difference to make it worth swapping out some white lights? Or do Amber Lights work better mounted higher like as ditchights?

Yup, but mounted low, especially fog.

I’ve always preferred all lights same warm/neutral color as opposed to even the slightest blue high in headlights or even to headlights one color and fogs yellow/amber.

Have driving in really bad Midwest blizzards and some pretty crazy sand storms and find that to be best for us anyway.

They work better in foul weather because they don't reflect back on you via the water vapor in the air

the physics of this statement doesn't make sense to me. all light reflects.

what i suspect you intend to say is that human eye's are most sensitive to red/green lighting contrasted to the eyes blue light sensitivity. because of that, yellow light tends to be easier to see in adverse conditions.

Amber lights don’t reflect back at you as brightly as any white/blue combo of lights. I live in the Midwest and have driven through more bad weather than I can count. I have always run amber/yellow fogs which do cut through the bad weather better. Any white/blue light reflects back at you limiting your vision especially in a snow storm have run them and have always replaced them asap.

Thanks for all the input! Sounds like lower would be better. I'm thinking about maybe putting a couple of Amber light bars inside the bumper lower, right here...

You won’t regret them, I haven’t found a setting that I wish I had white vs amber when it came to bad snow, rain, any foul weather.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
If you add them, get a fog pattern light and mount it low. It has a good cut off and wide spread as opposed to floods which just spread the light all over. And get good one's, you'll appreciate it. I'm running Rigid fogs after driving by the map one too many times on a foggy mountain road.

Yeah they do help alot. I have the Diode Dynamics amber fogs and they’re leagues ahead of white light for driving in rain, snow, fog etc.

I like the look of the six-pack of lights on the bar.

Do they jiggle when in use?

Amber lights work better to annoy folks on the road as posers seem to:
    a) Like them better, and
    b) think the work best in fully clear weather conditions - including on the freeway.:facepalm::smack:

When I am in the snow (every winter), it usually takes a blizzard for me to get there... White lights work fine - because, you see, I am often driving on public roads at speeds appropriate for the conditions and ALSO do not want to be a D*ck to other drivers.

yeeah... ambers might work better - marginally, (unless you are racing in Norway!). but it can all get a bit silly. Besides - all clear do look better when not in use.

One stormy winter, I took a trip with the GF from northern Europe down to Hungary and back via Poland. Drove some 12,000 km with only 2 white headlights. We were often plowing snow while going down the road in front of our little Fiat Cinquecento with bicycle tires. snowy, slushy, and icy, highways, backroads and farm roads... Very heavy snowfall... It never missed a beat. (only got stuck once - but I was able to push it out myself!...).

I remember cruising up this long hill weaving through stuck cars and trucks while waving at dozens of drivers in these cars that could not manage to get traction on the slope. People were clapping.... I looked like a badass...

Any light not mounted and properly aimed is going to be an annoyance to someone.

I have properly aimed and mounted Diode Dynamic SS3 Sports and have not had anyone flash high beams at me telling me to turn them off.

I do use them almost all the time because they have a better light pattern than the factory lights on my '18. The fog pattern has a low cut off and a wide pattern. I have seen and avoided deer on my commute thanks to those lights. And the state police here in VA are known to write tickets for illegal or improper use of lights, factory or aftermarket. No tickets in six years of having them on the truck.

Say what you will about mall crawlers and "posers", but use a narrow paint brush because a lot of us who have them and use them do so correctly.

You'll have to mount them on your lower control arms, because nowhere left on the truck is suitable with that lift.

I was a little surprised that my oem fogs are clear!!!! I bought yellow film to cover them, but never got around to applying it.

This thread may make me rethink it!!!

Below the headlights line amber, above headlight white.
Amber is much easier on the eyes in high glare situations such as fog dust or snow.
But white seems to work much better at distance

That should help as a visual

Oz, NOPE! no Jiggle, I went through 6 different brands of mounts, the ones I linked to in the previous posts are as solid as they get! the bumper is sold steel, on the frame and the light mounts are solid thick aluminum. They come with a ton of different size rubber liners, once you tighten down on the bolts on the mounts and they are clamped you can't wiggle them if you tried. LOL, and I've tried before while trying to aim them. :)
