Do all tonneau covers need the bed rails to mount?

do all tonneau covers need the bed rails to mount on our trucks? My 2nd gen does not have the rails installed and want to get a cover on it. Do i need to get rails to???

 

I would think that any tonneau cover made for a Tacoma is going to require the bed rails. You could look and see if there is one for a truck with that same size bed as a taco that doesn’t use the rails.

 

Also it’s not hard to install that rails and they just add more points for securing cargo in the bed

 

I know, was just hoping to save the 200$ and get a oem roof rack alittle sooner haha oh well
