I've been looking at a 2005 v6 tacoma 4x4 and the guy swears he got the timing belt changed. I thought that all v6's 2005 or newer had timing chains. Does anybody know if that's possible?

    thanks

I had to put a new battery in my truck a few weeks ago. Took it to a small garage that sells interstate and I get talking to the mechanic who also drives a tacoma.. he swore his truck had a belt and looked at mine and agreed it was a chain.. I couldn't help but chuckle

A little of this and a little of that.
I remembered reading something about timing chains when the 2nd generations came out but hadn't checked any 4.0 V6 engine specs before buying my 2011. I asked the salesman if it had a belt or chain, and he told me only American made V8's have chains, everything else has belts. I listened very carefully to everything else he had to say after that statement.

It is definitely a chain, anyone telling you its a belt doesnt know what they are talking about.

I'm pretty sure you can see it just looking into the oil fill cap.
