Homemade "TruckVault" built out of 3/4" MDO and covered in Herculiner. still have to make the side pieces and attach some tie-down hardware.

I don't have the specs on-hand (I think the width was 41.5"). I can try to find my notes next time I'm at my shop. The inspiration came from masterwacker's thread. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-bed-drawer-platform.450465/#post-13297364

These are the style of side mount casters I used
    https://www.bedframecatalog.com/1-5...rs-with-screw-on-mounting-plate-set-of-4.html

And drawer slides are way too expensive for this length so go with flush-mount casters (I ordered 20 per drawer, 40 total.)
    http://www.vandykes.com/product.aspx?p=205950

I searched eBay for the stainless steel locking paddle latches which where maybe $30 for 2. And bought a set of 4 "speaker case" spring handles for maybe $20 from the same place.

I made it for a LB, the box is 6' long. When I get some time I'll try to find my notes and maybe try to draw a sketch.

That'll be great. I have a SB. Couldn't get TRD off road 6mt in LB.

Looks nice. I would have used birch plywood instead of MDO, though. Your Herculiner finish is a heck of a lot better than any results I had with it. Did you spray it?

For the future, Orr & Orr makes relatively affordable drawer slides in large lengths. Way cheaper than Accuride and other manufacturers in the same size/weight-rating category.

Thanks! That herculiner looks even better up close, I'm really happy with the texture. I just used the small blue foam half-roller that came with the 1-gallon kit I bought. I bought an undercoat gun to spray also, but it was going on so evenly with the roller I didn't bother spraying. I thought about using another type of plywood, but settled on paying more for the MDO (for the weather-resistant resin overlay outer layer). I just checked out that Orr & Orr website and their 60" slide was $158... still too much I think.

Thanks! Took way longer than I thought it would, but that was mostly due to waiting for paint to cure in winter cold conditions. Maybe it was around $600 total.

$600 is still a pretty penny. Much better then 2k+ you'd spend for a truck vault but still a higher price then I would like to spend lol.. What ate up that cost? Casters?

You're right, it's not exactly a cheap project. The small casters were around $120; so that really jacked it up. Also, you could save a ton more money by using standard 3/4" plywood instead of MDO which was around $60 per sheet! I wanted to use MDO though since it's exactly what 'Truck Vault' brand uses, for strength and the water resistant outer resin properties. I didn't want to have to rebuild this thing in 5 years because the plywood developed soft wear spots or got water-logged, etc...

I built a tool box for work and instead of drawer glides I used half inch maple dado ed into the side of the box and drawer it will never fail. Nice job op. Birch ply if it gets no rain mdo for outside...
