Finally got around to making some traction boards. It's been on my to-do list for quite a while. They worked very well on my test run. I spun myself down into some thick mud on driver side and ice on passenger side. Could not move the truck under it's own power - actually a little more stuck than I planned. Put the boards under the two wheels that were spinning and I unstuck myself with little to no effort. I used 3/4 plywood, rubber stair treads and #14 2" screws. 20200410_144849.jpg

I like it. It’s dirty, it’s simple, and it just works. Not some orange, overpriced, shiney, clean BS bolted to a shiney clean truck aimed at getting likes on social media

Thanks OP for the idea. This is my next project for sure.

+1. I see so many trucks here with plastic recovery BS, $200 shovels, $150 axes and $150 Hi lift jacks bolted on to $2,000 racks without even a scratch on any of it. That and the truck looks like it hasn't even been on a gravel road. To each his own with their money, but yeesh.

I wish I could set up my truck like those guys. Not sure how they drop that sort of money on toys! Also not sure how they keep those toys so clean! But damn it sure looks cool. Nice to know that you can make your own though.

Will work on video. But honestly it was pretty much stick them under the two tires that were spinning and drive out. That simple. The next time I'm stuck I'll definitely record the spectacle!
Full disclaimer - For me I'm offroad a lot throughout the year in a wide variety of terrain but I'm not doing anything hardcore. I've been at this long enough to know my limits and I'm not afraid to turn around. I rarely get stuck anymore but 9 times out of 10 it happens at the turn around point. Usually some simple little thing will catch me up. I built these boards to deal with that kind of situation. They have definitely earned a fulltime place on my truck.
