DIY rod holders

So my wife recently bought me the toolbox I've always wanted. She def wins wife of the year award! Anyways.....I was sitting around this morning thinking about the next mod I could add to my truck when, bam!, it hit me. Some rod holders for the bed of the truck. I immediately grabbed the iPad and did a quick search on rod holders for a truck bed. I was pretty disappointed. The first one that came up on my search was a couple dollars under $500. After I saw that I didn't even research on rod holders anymore because I was already convinced I would make my own. So I got out the pencil, paper and measuring tape. Drew up my own design and off to Home Depot I went. Picked up some PVC and PVC cement and went to town. Still have a couple more things to do but thought I'd share some pics below.

 

Guessing for off shore? They look good would better if you put a coat or two of Krylon on them

 

Nah. Here in Fl. those are just bream poles.

 

Thank you. They will be for my inshore and offshore rods. I still have a couple things left to do. Going to test out my plastic welding capability haha. Wish me luck. Once I'm done with that I will drill some holes at the bottom of the PVC to let water drain out that accumulates down there. After all that I'll throw some paint on it. Not really sure what color I'll go with yet.

Good luck. Any kite rods? Paint thinking OEM MGM or krylon black or gray

 

No kite rods. I was wanting to go with some crazy color like mint green or some bright neon color but after thinking about it, it might not be the best idea. The rod holder is not secured down to the bed so if it's flashy and bright that may invite unwanted attention and I might come back to a bed that has a missing rod holder.

 

Looking at his location he might be more likely to have a gator rod or two.

Some of those phosphate mining Polk County boys have serious nighttime hobbies like that.

 

A couple of buddies of mine do own some rods for gators. They also have some pretty sick setups for bow fishing but I'm more of a saltwater guy. Freshwater isn't really for me, however, I won't pass up a trip to go bow fishing or ride with them to hunt for some gator.

 

What is the width on that tool box? I really dig it.
