I have a 2015, curious if anyone knows how far roughly (I know it depends on driving habits) you can go with the gas light on? How much fuel is left? 1 gallon, 1/2 gallon? Thanks.

I've done about 120 km after the light once when I kept forgetting to get gas after work (two 60km round trips) It was all highway driving.

I’ve seen some complaints every once in a while where someone’s gas light isn’t accurate.

For me it has always been very consistent at 3.5 gallons left until empty

I've done 50 miles and the gauge right at the E for another 10 miles. Didn't want to push my luck after that.

This is my experience as well. I get 17 to 18 mpg. I rarely let my gas get low enough for the light to come on.
    Safely, 30 to 40 miles.

When the "reserve" light on my 2015 goes on, I probably have less than thirty highway miles range left. I've filled up with as much as 20.8 gallons (into a 21.1 gallon stated capacity) when the light has just come on. I've driven 15 miles or so after the light came on and put in 20+ gallons many times.

So I figure there’s a gallon or less in my truck when the light comes on. I often fill before the light illuminates.

Unlike some reserve lights that are pessimistic about range and come on too soon, my Tacoma's reserve alert needs to be heeded.

I thought I'd seen that you have 1/8 of a tank when the light comes on.

    I’ve done about 40 miles.
Don’t think I’ll be doing that any more.
It’s not good for the fuel pump, not to mention reading a few post where people ran out of gas before the fuel light came on. Thankfully for them then problem was easily fixed. But it took some a good while to figure out they were simply out of fuel.

If you let the light come on you're doing it wrong. There are too many bad things that can happen by letting the truck get that low on fuel. I've never seen that light on my truck. One issue, among many, is that if you have to drive up a hill with low fuel in the tank all the fuel goes to the rear of the tank and cannot get picked up by the fuel pump. You may still have 3 gallons, but the truck won't run.

I always figure another 30 miles is safe. Any more than that on a trip and I’ll stop for gas.

I guess I own a unicorn then since I drive up a hill everyday leaving the house. Lol. I've generally filled up 10-15 miles past the light going on. Most I've gone is ~19.5 gallons on the gas meter.

I've driven literally thousands of miles with my gas light on and never had an issue. Just under 150k miles and I run every tank until the light comes on. I've put as much as 20.3 gallons in but it's usually 18.5-19.5 gal to fill it.

Ive known three separate people who were always on E and always pushing it on fumes, constantly, not the brightest folks as they actually thought it was cheaper to put in a few bucks at a time rather than top it off. Every single one of them ended up pumping sludge from their tanks through their injectors and having issues. They blamed the car of course and not the driver. One of them also had never gotten an oil change and when I found out me did it for them there was all kinds of gunk on the filler cap and I’ve never seen oil that black.

Fuel pump sits IN the bottom of the tank for cooling like a BMW. The light will give you a 2 gallon margin after that all bet are off.

I've cooked two Beamer pumps in the past and won't chance it in the Tacoma, you have to drop the tank for replacement

About 3-4 gallons left when the light comes on. I fill about 17-18 gallons when it comes on. For me, I get 11-14 mpg so I approximate 40-50 miles. Your mileage may vary. I am lifted 3" with lt 285/75r16

You know what your tank holds. 80ltrs. When the light comes on, get to the nearest station, fill it to first click off, don't over fill. 80ltrs - what you put in= reserve. Just my $.02CAD, eh?

I have never understood the fear of running the pump too low. I’ve probably owned 20 vehicles, run several out of gas, run several low on gas. Never experienced any issues with the fuel pump or fuel system.

when my light comes on I have pretty much 3gal left in the tank. I get between 13-18mpg depending on where/ how I’m driving.
