Discount Tire's Treadwell recommendation?

I used Treadwell to suggest a new tire. In the results I see dry/wet stopping distance displayed - my most important criterion of the four options. I don't see any way to view this distance other than through the Treadwell recommendation engine. Where does this information originate? Is it trustworthy?

As an example, a Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT in 235/85R16 yields the same stopping distance as a 265/75R16. A Falken Wildpeak, however, has 20-30% difference in stopping distance between the sizes with the 235 being much worse. If a Cooper has no difference, why would a Falken have a vast difference? It calls the data integrity into question for me.

Tire for tire, I would hate to give up 30% performance to get the skinny look. I'd love to see all of this performance data (wet, snow, dry, etc.) front and center and searchable.

Are the load ratings the same. Tire weight differences change things also

I tried to keep those as similar as possible. E ply. The Falken 235s are 7.5lbs lighter than the 265s.

In theory more rubber on the road is better for stopping. Not sure why the coopers would be the same though

Thank you for the tag @Iwilltaco!

@MiamiFLA - Great questions. The Treadwell tool provides real world test results and the stopping distance comes from a testing facility independent of Discount Tire.

When it comes to the two tire models noted in the 235/85R-16 LR-E and 265/75R-16 LR-E sizes, I show the stopping distances (wet and dry) remain the same between each size for both models. Stopping distances may differ between standard load and light truck versions due to differences in construction and rubber compounding. It's possible the standard load version of the WildPeak A/T3W was compared to the light truck version when toggling between sizes.

I agree that it would be nice to have the data front and center for tested models; I do believe this is in the works. You make a good recommendation in the searchable feature, I'll share this with our web team.

@Discount Tire Thanks for the nice response.

Unrelated: Have a Miami store in the works? Palm Beach is a bit of a drive.

    Happy to help @MiamiFLA!

I'm not sure if there is plan for Miami, but we are expanding in the FL area so I'm sure that's a possibly.
