What's up Tacomaworld! Why are parts for the first gen Tacomas being discontinued? I see so many on the road, one would think there would be a good market for OEM or aftermarket companies.

Seems there has been many threads about this recently. The newest 1st gens are 20 years old now. Toyota is going to do what makes the most sense for them financially at the end of the day. They’re not going to keep making every part for 20+ year old trucks when they sell less than a quarter as frequently as parts for the newer stuff. There are still a ton of parts available for our trucks though. At least you don’t own an old landcruiser.

    Welcome

Other way around- we're lucky most OEM parts for these trucks are still on the shelves. I assume you're referring to the last few threads which have mentioned that the torque converters and I don't recall the other one, but those examples are pretty limited in scope. How many NEW torque converters do you think Toyota sold in 2023? I don't know, but I can tell you, it's not a big enough number to justify the manufacturing, storage, and distribution costs. Interior and body parts (fenders, etc...) have very short OEM life cycles. Mechanical items are produced longer, but even then, things like brake boosters have been discontinued for years. Many parts are made by third part manufacturers for Toyota, and those tend to stick around longer (Denso, and Asin). Interestingly, Toyota owns stake in at least Denso, which I only just learned when I recently read an article mentioned Toyota was selling part of it's stake in that company. That is a more worrisome prospect for me than a TC which can more easily be remanufactured. Aftermarket companies can more easily step in and produce items if there is demand... but if the big wigs tell Denso to stop making MAF's, Ignition Coils, etc... designed 25 years ago, which are now just taking up production time, we're gonna loose those valuable parts.

Try finding OEM for 1st gen 4runner, I usually buy used if I can't find OEM and a lot of OEM is expensive but the chinese stuff is crap.

By law parts support for vehicles is only 10 years ( unless it was changed)

Toyota Goes far beyond most other auto makers .
