Yep. That's what I've used on bed racks, my front bumper, and my sliders. No issues. I've used with and without primer. Both ended up about the same. It has a little texture so touch ups are really easy.

And your time is worth something as well. I had a hard time justifying the $150 on top of cost of sliders AND shipping, but hassle free meant something to me as well.

I'm still waiting for them due to build times, but I'm hoping it was worth the added expense.

You don't have to use their 'bed coating'. They have other products as well.

Prep is one key for anything, as far as adhesion goes. So you had a prep issue. The other item, wear, is strickly product based.

For the purpose of sliders, bedliner would be all I'd even consider. Even if it's a city truck, as you've found, they get walked on.

It sucks because I saw it highly recommended in a few places in the Mobtown slider thread (or a similar thread)... I'll know better next time.

That's why I specified that I didn't top coat. It's faded but so did the rustoleum on my bumper. UV stability be damned, it's held up.

I was one of the people recommending VHT or an epoxy after I had already used Rustoleum over a quality automotive primer on my sliders. If you think the VHT looks bad a Rustoleum (or any unhardened aerosol enamel) job would look even worse. Will try to post some pics of what my enamel job looked like after one summer, fall, and winter. They are a mess. And it wasn't due to poor prep or application. At one time I painted cars and equipment for a living.

I don't know if there is a perfect fix. Maybe try cleaning, scuffing, touch up, and use the damage to guide where to tape off and topcoat with a bedliner product.

Naval jelly to remove minor surface rust at welds, solvent clean, thorough 240 machine and hand prep, solvent clean, SEM self etching automotive primer per TDS, Krylon Pro enamel within recoat window. After a summer, fall, and hard winter this is the result.

There are areas that are even worse.

How is the POR holding up? Did u use the three step process. I have access to the POR however can’t get my hands on the metal cleaner. Was thinking of using OSFO. Also I saw you put primer down on top of then a top coat. What type of primer and how difficult was it to scuff up before primer? Sorry for all the questions but I just want to make sure and do this right.

I just painted my Bed Bars with VHT Roll Bar Paint, guess I will find out soon enough how it holds up.

It's holding up great, aside from the parts where it got bashed into a tree obviously lol.

It's been over a year now since I removed the Rustoleum garbage from my sliders and recoated them with satin black VHT rollbar and chassis paint. Hundreds of miles of high speed gravel roads, a few forest 4x4 trails, a trip to the sand dunes, winter driving, and few thousand good weather road miles as my DD and the VHT is holding up great. Even better than I expected. Its all in the prep.

Great. Did you use just any self etching primer over the POR 15 then paint of choice or did you use all there product? I can only find the POR 15 rust paint here in Alaska and there isn’t any shipping due to hazmat.

I believe I used regular rustoleum self etching primer after mildly scuffing up the por15 and then used satin black to finish it off.
