how can I know if someone has made a copy of one of my key fobs another thing is how do I turn one of the two that I have off if I'm missing one of them I'm pretty sure this is a dumb question but it's probably been asked I just get aggravated when I know I lock the truck but it becomes gone through and messed with any help is much appreciated I have a 2021 Tacoma premium edition off-road
    .
PS I have PTSD from combat so sometimes my family looks too much into what I do and how I'm doing and they take too many precautions sometimes I saw that's why I thought it would be good for me to be honest about this so it's not someone trying to steal stuff but it is aggravating when they say they haven't touched anything but can you helps much appreciated .

Probably your best option or something similar. Dashcam as well as an interior camera with cell service.

The only thing you can disable on a fob is the keyless entry radio, which is done by pressing the unlock button twice while holding the lock button down (press the unlock button to enable it again). Of course, you would need the fob in your possession to do this.

One thing you can try is using the Toyota phone app - you may need to pay for a Remote Connect subscription if your trial ended, I believe it's $8 monthly or $80 yearly - as you can receive a notification on your phone if your truck gets unlocked while you're away from it. I had my truck at a shop for a few days and would get notifications whenever they were unlocking the doors to move it, etc.

    Oh look, another mod....

I can't help with the keyfob issue, but please seek out help at the V.A. and also seek out a psychiatrist/psychologist to help with the PTSD. i have battled with this for years and helped other who suffer from it. Please don't be afraid to ask for help or to accept help.

    You're not alone brother.

Do you have both fobs? If so, there is a very very small chance a 3rd one was programmed. There are repeaters that thieves use, but the majority of the posts I see on here take place in Canada. If you're concerned about someone using that against you, then do what @s0ar stated with the key fobs while you're at home.

Another thing you can do to harden security, although it applies to your house, is if you have the homelink rearview mirror, you can disable it from using battery power. That way if someone were to break into your truck, they couldn't use your rearview garage door opener to get in your house.

When I did the Lexus credit Card Key I had to disable all fobs, and re-learn them individually, including the credit card key. It's doable, but takes a lot of knowledge and Techstream. I don't think there is an easy way to do it. :notsure:

Each OEM key has its own coding. You can buy an additional key, and then the dealership can program the truck's computer to recognize the new key. Since the dealership can add keys to the truck's ECU, it would make sense that the dealership could also delete keys from the ECU. (There's a limit to the number of keys that can be recognized.)

Aftermarket (locksmith) keys can be cloned from existing OEM keys. This doesn't involve changes to the truck's ECU.

At least that's the way I understand it.

Google or look up Toms key company. I used them to make an extra key myself and I remember seeing somewhere on there site about deleting a key.

You can 100% delete keys. You need a techstream so a dealer is easiest.

I do it often, what you do is delete all but one key, then re-add the existing keys. This makes sure there's no way someone has access to your stuff.

I don't keep sh*t in my vehicles and I still don't want anyone going thru it but if they do they won't find sh*t.

Buy an AirTag if worried about the truck getting stolen.

I once had a Mazda RX7 and I kept it pretty trashed and one day in San Francisco some homeless FK was busting windows on every
car on the street except mine. I asked him why did he skip the RX7 and he said: Man that car is trashed I wouldn't be caught dead in that thing.

Take care and let the little things go. Remember if you need help for anything reach out - lots of organizations and individuals actually care.

Sarge, please do follow up with us. I lost a good friend to ptsd, and his wife and 2 kids hurt to this day. I have a friend that is a AF Vietnam vet who cries when he tells me of his experience in 'Nam. The trama that you went through is not a weakness.........in reality, the fact that you have dealt with it as long as you have is a sign of immense strength. You have people who care for you, and you have people who have been where you are. Don't suffer needlessly. We got your back........

Maybe the easy way to solve this is a cheap motion activated security camera with night vision, hidden from sight.

i've got an update I got my key fob it was missing back in my possession as of yesterday the key was placed back in my possession by a family member my father or my wife I can't tell for sure but I wish I could solve the whole ECU deleting key fobs without going to the dealership I looked at the cameras but even my Arlo home security cameras was breached because my passwords were easily gotten into a bar a close family member so I gave up hope for security cameras they were able to disable them whenever they thought the need but I looked into the owl cam security cameras but it looks like they're going out of business but all your advice and all your kind words don't go unrecognized I do appreciate them

Have you considered that you might be a little paranoid to think your family is stealing your keys, digging through your truck and turning off cameras to hide it? Have you sat down and talked to them about it to discuss their concerns and why they might be doing it? Don't use PTSD as a crutch, I've seen way too many friends fall down that path when it was easier than dealing with the problems in life.

    • last july 4 i tried to take my fam to atlata braves game. I had a flashback in the parking lot I got a smell that couldn't get out of my nose and I spent 3 1/2 hours being talked down from the Atlanta Braves stadium security everyone I was a threat a child a dog a woman or a man came at me I seen it as a threat and that was the worst flashback I have ever had. with that said I have made threats to my family harming them during flashbacks my wife and her son and I think they put some of these safety precautions as they called him and play because I have made the threats and they should be able to do these certain things if they want to stay around me I see that is not being so much as paranoid but I see it as an option or an obstacle for me to pass through because they want me to go back to the PTSD clinic at the VA does it sound so bad now or is it still illogical to believe it I don't mean to take up a lot of yawls time but I just want away to drive and enjoy my truck without having to worry to start access to my truck and I know it's my family and they won't steal but it still my truck my name on the damn thing I just want to be able to control the keys
