I don't know how to disable. This seems like a great feature for those who park in the garage with the engine accidently left running and then go to sleep for the last time in the house before dying of carbon monoxide poisoning.

On tractor trailers you turn on cruise control then set at any speed. Since you’re in park/neutral the truck won’t move. This tricks the engine into thinking you are moving and it won’t shut off.

I knew a guy that drove home after too many drinks, pulled in the garage, closed door, fell asleep while leaving engine running. Wife found him dead early the next morning...

And if that doesn’t work, probably leave it in drive with the parking brake firmly engaged.

New tech like that is only good when you can disable it

I get the need but I was not expecting it last night haha

I just found out. Clearly. Not sure how to disable I’ll get back to you if I find a way.

hmm. I’ll give that a whirl.

That would definitely do it. I assume. I’ll see if I can scrounge up some wheel chocks. I’m sleeping in the back seat dog in the front. Don’t want her to accidentally disengage.

I agree. I’ll see if neutral works. If I can park against a curb too I can try that.

thanks everyone. Seems like Toyota hasn’t made it accessible to turn off. Maybe via tech stream but that won’t be happening on this trip.

Yes at 2am. Fortunately it was relatively cool but that was an unwelcome surprise. I thought I’d drained a full tank of fuel running the AC at first haha

Someone mentioned this already, but I work out of my truck a lot and I leave it in neutral and with the e brake pulled. I’ve sat in it for over an hour without any issues.

not even close. But I can sleep back there.

yeah it looks like they added this in the push to start 20s. Awesome. I’m sure that’ll work but as mentioned have doggo in front seat so not sure that would be the best. We’ll see.

yeah that’s what I’m worried about I think these trucks can auto put it in park from neutral so if it detects an idle for an hour or whatever the time is even in neutral it might kick it into park and throw some warnings. TBD.

update. Was able to use a curb as a wheel chock and left it in neutral. I think it may have idled a little bit higher but might just be making things up. By a little bit I mean like 650 instead of 6. But, stayed on all night. Thanks for the tips! I used the e brake as a secondary backup too but don’t think I needed it. Not sure if that would have effected anything.

I was able to shift it into park this morning without putting my foot on the brake, so I think it went into park automatically but left the truck on in neutral.

It idles higher in neutral because both sides of the torque converter get to spin at the same speed. In gear, one side is stationary, and as the engine spins the fluid inside the torque converter, it hits those stationary blades and adds drag

And any vehicle i’ve driven lets you throw it in Park without the brake. Just need to tap the brake to leave Park.
    — Note i have a 19 MT so not entirely sure of your set-up —-
—-Park would similarly idle higher btw—-

park is the same as neutral in a auto transmission just the park pawl is engaged. you are correct between park and drive or reverse. but park /neutral the torque converter is doing the same thing

Y’all have no idea. Past nights have been glorious with air conditioning and being able to sleep through the night

yeah, it may have also been revving higher since I had the AC running too. Or it might not have been at all. I didn’t actually check the tach, I can tonight I guess.
