Hey guys, been thinking about getting a new dirt bike since I moved down here a while back. I left my old bike at my parents place in the mountains of Colorado to ride it when I'm back there, anyone got a recommendation of shops around Houston to check out for a new one?

And probably more importantly, what are some good places to ride around here? I grew up just riding random trails in the forests of Colorado so I'm not much of a track guy. Any good beaches to ride on, always wanted to take my bike and truck to some beach to just camp and ride.

Not to many public bike trails around here. Look up general sams off road park. I'm sure they allow bikes there.
Beach runs, usually on bolivar island is a good place to camp and ride. Other beaches won't let you have bikes/quads/ at or what not

Look up tonyt915. He is a local Houston member and can either help you out himself or point you in the right direction.

    Look into GHORBA.

Look into West End Bikes for a nicer bike shop. They also have rentals so you can rent one and try it out on Memorial Trail (just down the street from there location). They also have experts that can fit you properly.

Also if you want a decent bike and don't want to spend an assload then look into used (CL) after you get an idea of what sizing you need, Sun and Ski, and bikesdirect.com

This is an initially expensive hobby (bike and helmet are usually the big ticket items). There is no need to purchase a 4K rig when a sub 1000 will do the same thing for someone getting into the sport. It gets addicting though and you go through phases of riding and not riding...at least 3 of us on here have rigs that cost 2-4Gs hanging on the wall collecting dust right now lol.

Sorry for the confusion guys, looking for a motorcycle dirt bike, not a mountain bike.

While I do enjoy mountain biking, it's just not the same down here without actual mountains. I did get into road cycling though, picked myself up a nice Trek little over a year ago and I can attest to how quickly it can get pricey lol.

Oh yes sir! I've had several dirt bikes/quads, mtv, road bikes, and they all seem to cost about the same. Lol

I could feel a fellow two wheeler in need lol, if you are wanting to ride some trails the best place around here is Sam Houston National Forest. There something like 80 miles of trails and all it will cost you is a Texas parks tag which is like $14 for the year. If you want to ride some mx tracks most of them are on the moth side. My fav is Rio Bravo which is old but has some good trails and tracks, then you have 3 palms not much further out in Conroe area. On the south side they just opened a new MX park I Needville that I haven't been to but heard a lot of good stuff from other riders. If you need anymot help feel free to PM me.

I'm always down to ride also. David and I have been keeping it to downtown hooligan riding but I miss the trails. I need a new bike though. I cracked the carbon Klein and bought David's old Haro but even with all the XTR components I've manage to run the bike into the ground. Looking at the SC Tallboy but the truck has been draining my monies.

Yeah I've heard a lot about Sam Houston, where do you usually offload at? I heard there's a decent spot near New Waverly I think it was? Any thoughts on some places out near Austin or the hill country? One other question on Sam Houston State Park, does it crowded up there on the weekends? I could see with Houston being pretty close and not a lot of place to go it could get pretty busy.

I think it would be fun to ride some stuff out there but again, I have absolutely no idea where.

Thanks for the help, I'm sure I'll be messaging you a few times for some more suggestions or thoughts on some rides.

I think Cycle Shack is the oldest, pure dirt bike center in Texas, then there's Frank over at the new Pasadena Honda Motorsports, Wes Sealy's Tomball store.....Webster's Yamaha South.....

That's cool. I stopped riding and when I ride I usually do the Armand Bayou Loop on my 29er with 700x42C tires.

Eventually I will start riding on a more frequent basis.

The tallboys are uber nice, pricey though. I am still fond of salsa, chumba, turner, and the like.
