My 3rd gen tacoma has ~53000 miles on it. I've never changed the fluids in the front diff, rear diff or transfer case. Is now a good time? I think the manual recommends beginning this around 60000 miles. What intervals do y'all change yours at? (PS I have a camper shell on the bed, which may increase my frequency).

I'd say do it now, you're almost there and its better to do before the dark of winter. I do mine roughly around the same or sooner, and I'm a good 10 hours north of you.

Awesome, thanks for the tip. How often do you change these fluids going forward? Every 10k? 15?

God no, I'm around 50,000 us miles. per change.

I off road and tow, I should probably do it more often but I haaaaaaaaaaaate doing driveline fluids.

Toyota drivelines don't fail, the biggest problem they have is leaks from clogged breathers, the rear diff breather is super simple to check.

    I agree!
But I also like @Bishop84 idea of doing it before the cold of winter, especially for those that put in lots of miles, and may not have a shop w heat.

Will do my 2nd change at 50. First one was at 1450 miles though. I can’t help it…I freaking love my truck to death.

I hear ya, I dislike doing gear oil as well. Has to be one of the worst smelling liquids there is. Hard to get the smell off your hands and out of clothes.

I agree with others, I'd do it now before the cold sets in. Unless you are doing a lot of towing or hard wheeling, I'd agree with 50k change intervals.

Imo, 60k miles is too long for this stuff especially if you tow. I've seen what the differential fluid can look like in 40k miles when towing several trips a year....it's not pretty vs new gear oil.

Okay. Nothing is like new when used. The key is, is it still doing it's job. What job does it do? It provides a film between the teeth of the gear. That is all it does. Use good lubrication, you will have little wear. Use shit lube get shit results.

In my experience the rear should be changed more frequently. Like 30k intervals. But the front and t case still come out looking great at 60k.

My 2016 off road has 113500 miles on her. I change all three at 50000 miles and then again at 100000. I also did a tune up at 100000 miles and a coolant flush and brake fluid flush. I don't tow.23722495_1488685847863851_5069235961566495388_n.jpg

How well can it be doing its job when the fluid looks, and smells burn't. Idk about you, but I'd rather replace it.

    Sooner is better than later………
I always change diff fluid at about 10k on a new truck. I want the break in glitter out of circulation.

After the 1st change, I generally change about every 30k

Car Care Nut recommends the first diff changes be done at 30K
