I am looking to put a rough country 2" leveling kit in my 2017 tacoma. Do I need to run differential drop spacers with this kit? Rough country and the shop installing it say no but I am skeptical. I am just running the leveling kit to fit 265x70x16s instead of 245s. Is this going to wear my cv out without the spacers?

I installed a 2" Supreme Suspension Lift Kit. Did not install the diff drop kit but did have to install a drive shaft carrier bearing drop kit to address a rear vibration on stopping decel. I am really happy with the results.

Where did you purchase your drive shaft carrier bearing drop kit from?

It's up to you to use them or not. You'll get increased wear on the CV boots no matter what. Do they help? Maybe.
    Do you need them? No.

I have 2 inches on mine without a differential drop kit and have had no problems so far. Diff drop kits make little difference and decrease your ground clearance in the front.

My random guy on the internet opinion after reading a lot of posts on here and elsewhere is that the diff drop mod was more popular with the 2nd gens and isn’t used so much for the 3rd gen’s. I think this may in part been because it is possible to change the ride height of the 2nd gen’s more than 3rd gen’s and thus more likely to run into issues caused by cv angles.

I have had a 2” lift with no diff drop for a few months now with no issues. I do have a carrier bearing drop kit because one came with the kit I bought from headstrong off-road.

I run a front diff drop and a rear carrier bearing drop to correct the angles, vibration free. Did a ECGS clam shell bushing as preventive maintenance. As every truck is different mine was necessary, 5100s on the 4th perch and a one inch rear block. Drives awesome, no issues and going on two years, 12k miles on it. Take some measurements, see if your within spec and go from there, no vibrations dont it. It's trial and error, my front CV angles are fine, no issues!

3rd gens have a nearly identical platform as 2nd gens, with a few differences. One of those differences is that 3rd gens have a 1” higher lift factory. Lifting your truck does not change the cv angles as drastically as the 2nd gen lifts, which is why the diff drop is pretty much unnecessary in 99% of lift applications. I say most people are stock to 3”, which are all usually fine. A diff drop will just drop the diff 2 inches and negate the lift you just installed. So again, pointless unless absolutely necessary.

No need for a lift at all. 265/75/16's will fit with the stock suspension
