Different reading for miles to empty after each fill up

I have a 2020 tacoma.every time I fill up I get a different reading on the miles to empty.

 

Okay....

 

After a couple mods you’ll throw MPG out the window. Just wait

 

It's based off from the current 600 mile average for a while, then after that I think it just puts up the same number every time regardless of what is happening - mine always says 385 at fill up regardless of how I have been driving the truck. Yet the actual distance I can dive before getting below "40 to go" is around 250 indicated on the odometer.

 

Well conditions always change, why wouldn’t the fuel economy?

 

I have to say my miles to empty display has been nearly the same on every fill-up.....within 8 miles.

 

Same with mine, its been displaying 381, or within 8 miles lower.

 

Mine began life around 330...now it's 240. Sad face

 

I just fill up every 400 miles.

Miles to empty is simply an estimate, not an exact measurement. It is based on what the trip computer estimates to be your MPG. My truck sometimes varies between 385 miles until empty and 415, 416 miles to empty. In reality I fill up with 1/4-1/2 tank and therefore rarely drive more than 300 before refilling anyway.

The "miles to empty" is simply a calculation based on the last mpg and an ESTIMATE of the onboard fuel.

So the end result is only an ESTIMATE.

Don't put too much faith in the ID10T light on the dashboard.

 

Mine Said 385 for years. After a software update, it now says 381. Doesn’t really matter.

 

98.35749% of the time mine shows 385 to empty after a refill. Once in a while it will show 415 miles to empty

 

The MTE display is useless info. Ignore it.
