Just changed my diff oil at 30k and the truck drives much better now! Shift are smooth and it seems to be in the proper gear at the proper time. I have had trans issues since day 1 ( lugging, slipping feeling, erratic shifting, harsh shifts, all that stuff ). I have rev 1 tsb and trans was checked and topped off around 5k (was 1qt low). SO, what is/was my issue? How would new diff fluid make everything better? I'm new at all this stuff so educate me.

They probably flashed your ECU again? That always makes mine drive better for awhile

Differential fluid has zero to do with transmission behavior.

It the diff had a real LSD with clutch plates I could understand the improvement, but since its a fake LSD (I hate to even call it LSD) I have no idea. There is no drag involved in shifting, only rpm and tps to my knowledge.

It's definitely driving much much better than before I don't think it's placebo effect.

I don't know how changing the diff fluid would make shifting much smoother any ideas

Maybe I was low on differential fluid and it made my truck drives like crap?

If you swapped it out with JB Weld it probably runs a little tighter...thinks it's carrying a load now.

Smoother shifts is easily possible with diff oil change, but you mentioned being in the right gear at the right time, that's what I don't see diff oil change effecting.

No whining at all, just the typical trans symptoms a lot of people have been reporting.

I have every confidence your transmission is behaving better for you.'Cause you say it is, and you should know.

I have the same confidence your diff fluid change didn't cause it.

I changed the oil on a Z once and after it wouldn't start. Same general idea. Typically known as coincidence. ;)

Only thing about changing diff fluid is I've herd in the 2nd gen, you get less drag by switching to a full synthetic like lucas gear oil. Almost like coasting is smoother.

Only word of mouth and no data to back this up.

i think what was happening before is that it may have been in the right gear but I wasn't getting the power expected for that gear. It would shift to 3rd but I really had to mash the petal to get it actually going felt like slipping or lugging. I don't know how to explain it. It would rev high but not really move
