Yep lots of info on 1KD but not much on the 1GD, Aux fuel tank, or 3rd gen.

    Yep.
Too bad they won't offer a crate kit, at least not from what I'm reading. 14.5k would be doable for some people, otherwise it's more expensive than probably 90% of the 2nd gens out there.

But damn it would be awesome! Can only imagine what it would be like with this in the reg cab.

GD is a bit new so I assume that is why, given they are getting used motors...

none the less, some info between the two.

    https://www.topgear.com.ph/news/technology-news/how-special-are-toyota-new-diesel-engines

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_KD_engine

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GD_engine

    kd > gd

I think I rather have a bigger motor with less output than a smaller motor a higher output

these feckers just don't want to give us proper motors and proper frames, or they do but they are being barred by big brohaha

    Just getting started...
It's too bad they probably won't offer any info, either. I live in the UK where 1KD-FTV's are readily available, but I highly doubt they just plug straight in. Nothing is ever that simple.

I thought about the Cummins 2.8 Diesel swap. That is a crate. The Toyota Diesel seems way too expensive.

Just not practical. Our infrastructure doesn’t fully support diesel.

I am not sure i fully agree with this 100%, I do not believe it has anything to do with practicality, and infrastructure albeit a valid point in terms of gas pump / diesel pump ratio I do not see it as being that great of an obstacle to overcome. If infrastructure was truly the case we would not have seen any of these diesel options on regular passenger cars such as the many germans brands that offer a diesel option. let alone the many diesel work trucks and vans we see here both domestic and imported.
(VW dieselgate fiasco is a totally different discussion)

just some of the reasons I believe but in no particular order...

EPA has their reasons albeit right or wrong...
Protectionism of the homegrown brands is without a doubt a reason.
Lobbyist I am sure have a huge hand at play here on multiple levels stemming from the car companies to the oil and gas companies and beyond.
At the end of the day it is simply Money... Money is the one main reason. Profits and margins are what make or break this stuff these days.

    A. toyota doesn't want to pay nor conform to certain rules and regulations big brother has set for them
    B. toyota doesn't see enough profit in their estimated usa diesel sales to make paying up all that much more worth while
    c. toyota sells enough gassers to be totally content with their current US sales

just my .02, I certainly am not involved in making these decisions and simply a consumer at this point

I think to answer @Black64 the truth is diesel is offered here from a bunch of automakers, just not the ones we here on this forum are going after.
