So i just found out i can get the 3.0 duramax diesel for the same price as a supercharger for my tacoma. What do you guys think i should do? Should i swap in a diesel or supercharge a 200,000 mile 1gr-fe tacoma?

I talked to chevorlet and the price for motor, tranny, tranfer case, and all the wiring needs will cost 1k more than a URD supercharger. And it will be way more reliable, fuel efficient, and undeniably more torque.

But seriously, this kind of project is a nickel and dime nightmare.

What did they quote you? A supercharger can be had for around $5K, even if you DIY I don't see a diesel swap being less than $15k

I was quoted 5,500 for the LM2 (3.0 duramax) as a crate motor. As i know of theres only a few of them being sold right now as a crate motor.

I'm guessing he's got a hard cost quote for just the motor (probably a rebuild), no labor. You're showing what an all inclusive specialty shop charges.

Buddy, I really don't want to be rude to you, and I'm trying to be as kind as possible here, but do you think you can just pull a gas motor out of an engine bay and drop in a diesel?

Ah, yeah, but you quoted my statement, DIY is going to be $15k. Unless the kid is a master fabricator who also is an expert at custom wiring harnesses and is also a master programmer.

Oh for sure. Like I said, I can maybe believe that cost for JUST the motor.

Depending on the state, registration/smog/inspection could be an issue as well.

I totally understand where you’re coming from man and I don’t take it as rude. I have done diesel swaps before but this will be the first time going from gas to diesel.
