After multiple emails back and forth They decided to honor my return with just charging for return shipping. Wanted to let everyone know the outcome of my Hassle free return. Thanks everyone for your input.

To their credit, I don't think they're a particularly "big company." Their owner lives here in Reno and the Warehouse is in SoCal somewhere.

Wulf not sure what your post is intending, I already specified that I am willing to pay shipping cost plus assembly cost ( even though that is not specified on there site)

We purchased a $225 item and a $12 item from Amazon. The $225 item didn’t work out and so I put their shipping label on it and sent it back for free. Unfortunately the shipping label that we used was for the cheap item and UPS delivered it even though it weighed a lot more, and Amazon accepted it anyways and refunded us the $12 instead. Who is at fault? They have our $225 item plus my $225 payment and no way to return or refund it. So in essence we have a free $12 item that I paid $225 for. You are lucky you’re dealing with a small company, I think I heard giant gears stopping and motors shutting down when Amazon got my return package and they don’t know how to fix it.

It seems like you are asking it to be fair from your viewpoint. In reality, a company ends up eating a lot of profit with returns, especially when something is assembled or special.
In your example, you show that unassembled versus assembled costs about $20 difference. That could be because they go through an assembly process that is optimized. When something is returned, it could require unassembly that is a manual operation and costs much more. There are many hidden costs to returns that most don't realize.
If you return a $3K pump to our company it will cost you about $1K. Why? Because we have to disassemble and go through it to make sure it's saleable with no damage.
We don't list all that on our website but we do say restocking fee will be applied and to call us before returning.
Most people buy stuff and keep it and use it. Returns are a different and sometimes a costly process.

You did order a custom item … so maybe in the return policy is different on a custom item ? My best guess . Like others said sell them locally . Pretty sure someone will pick them up .

So, this would be a "custom" order, or assembly. Off the shelf stuff is easier to resell, and custom stuff that gets returned is subject to higher re stocking fees.

    Directly from their site:

Since you returned for cash, and not exchange, this indicates a re stock fee would be assigned.

Welcome to the world of “if there’s no button to click for a solution, you’re shit out of luck”.

Be prepared to jump through hoops, spent hours on hold in hopes for resolution. Consider yourself lucky if you weren’t accidentally disconnected only to have to start all over again.

With stock being low or non-existent for this type of thing, I'd see what I could get selling it myself. You might make a few bucks on someone stuck waiting.

I did get disconnected once and also had to leave a VM after holding on for 20 minutes or so twice.

Whatever they don't give you back try to get from your cc company, they'll usually take care of it.

OP, glad you got a resolution you’re satisfied with.

Looked at the website myself, don’t think the restocking fee is very well communicated. One mention of it and only a case of when it’s *not* applicable. Nothing about a dollar amount or order percentage.

Restocking fees for a custom or assembled order certainly seem fair, but they need to be clearly disclosed in adequate detail.

If you buy somewhere that allows free returns, then there is a good chance you could buy an as returned item they haven't inspected.

If they didn't make a mistake, I don't see how they should lose money. Allowing a return is good, but you still have to pay for all of the overhead they can't get back.
