Did Rock Lights on the truck - A Different Way

Finally finished up my rock lights.

I have 8 Cyclone V2 under the truck, one in each wheel well and one under each door.

Wired them up using the switched ground from the Dome light so when the inside lights dim down so do the rock lights and grill lights.

Also did a DD Grill Lighting and wired the same.

And as the topper, I can have all of them light up, only the grill lights, only the wheel lights, only the door lights or any combination of them I want. Plus if we're out and about at night I can luminate the same without the truck running or on Acc.

Made my own brackets for the wheel wells and used Runnin 4 Tacos Cyclone V2 brackets for under the doors.

Yep, 3 relays.

 

3??? Why 3?
You only need on that is triggered by the ground from the dome lights. And you can run a switch with power so the rock light work as they should.

 

Because I can switch off any so they will not come on. So I can have just the lights under the doors come on when I unlock it. If I did one relay I could not do that. Cost me $10 for the two other relays and maybe another $10-15 for the wiring.

Just wanted something no one else had or thought of.

 

Got any pictures of the mounts?

I hav six cyclone V2 rock lights on mine and have been curious on how other members mount theirs. Also did the harnesses reach all the way to the back or did you have to modify it

How much relay chatter do you get? relays in the engine bay?

 

@caribe makaira No chatter when I unlock my truck. Yes relay's are located in the engine bay.

From what I have read and researched with my switch turned off, in the cabin of the truck, pin 87a is connected to pin 30. So as soon as the switched ground is activated, truck unlocked or doors opened, the lights come on and no relay chatter. If I turn on the switch in the cabin I do hear a click of the relay connecting pin 86 to 30.

I did not tap off the constant power for the dome light. I used separate constant power from my fuse block located on top of the fuse panel in the engine bay. One constant power line for the grill lights and one constant power line for both wheel/door LED lights. Both are fused at 5 amp.

 

Good for inspecting rocks or looking for oil leaks, I guess.

 

That one is fine. A SPDT switch would do the same.

The issue might be the added rock lights
The OEM dimming circuit on the Tacoma only shows the maps lights, overhead lamp and key ring illumination sharing.
