After a ton of reading on all the raving reviews of this tune, I went ahead and found a local guy to it for me. Nice guy he was and very accommodating. I however am severely disappointed in this tune as it did little to improve the shift points to smooth them out. It also is jumpy at times even though he programmed the Stock throttle response. In rare cases it does down shift smoother when going uphill, but it is jerky and not as smooth as OEM programming in just about every other scenario other than when accelerating up a steep hill.

I want to return to stock programming and just consider the $350 I spent as a lost cause. Can the Toyota dealer do this for me, or would they look at me like I had a 3rd eye when asking them? My local KD Max dealer said he is unable to flash the truck back to OEM, he said he could get close, but not the Toyota programming, just similar.

What say you guys that are knowledgable?

I don’t know why the stock tuner won’t flash you back, that doesn’t make any sense. I got flashed back to stock because the KDMax didn’t agree with my truck either. My tuner happily offered to refund me the $$ for the tune as well, I didn’t even have to ask for it. What your tuner told you is not right.

If you’re like me, you’ll probably like the Sprint Booster better. I have a thread about it here...

The guy who tuned you had the ability to flash you back to stock, and hopefully will give you a refund of sorts.

Don’t tell Toyota you had it flashed. That would be a bad move. But yeah the tuner can just flash back to whatever the oem map was

I may have misunderstood him when I asked, or perhaps he misunderstood me. I will give him a call and see if he can help. He was a very nice guy and accommodating. I was not posting to bash him, he is a good guy, I just dont think the tune agreed with my truck, maybe the 2021 models are different in some way.

I have been going back and forth between the spring booster and the tune.
From what I can see it seems the newer 3rd gens have a better factory programming so there is less to fix.

How many miles are on the truck? I could see doing the tune before the truck has time to "learn" your habits might cause trouble

I have a 2021 and the tune was night and day for my driving habits. Someone else on here with a 2021 Sport DCLB got the same tune from the same guy a mere 30 minutes after me and he can't tell a difference at all.

But to answer your question...my tuner also said that if I didn't like it or if I needed to take it in to the dealer for some ECM work, he could return to stock and then reflash when I was done. Also, offered to change tip in or octane for free. Super nice guy.

I have a 2021 and it made a positive difference for me as well in shifts and response. Tuned at 3500 miles on the odo and now have over 7000 miles on the truck.

Yes, just reach out to the person who tuned you and add me to the PM. We can Definitely put you back to stock or work on a custom tune to get you what you are looking for.

Sucks you're having a bad experience. I tuned my 21 off road with about 500 miles on it and it's been great.

My truck had 8300 miles on it when I flashed it, it now has almost 11,000 miles. My driving is somewhat aggressive and I just do not like the jerkiness or hard downshifting at times. Not saying the factory tune and shift points were good at all, just seemed a bit smooth downshifting and less jerky at times with the OEM tune.

We have different versions of the tune and can let you test drive the "less jerky" ones.
We will do whatever it takes to make you happy. You will not be happy on the stock tune, but if that is what you want, we will refund you and return you to stock.

Reach out to Max and give us a chance to let you test drive the other options, then decide.
Let us know here how it goes, we want to do whatever is right for you.

I've had some tunes installed on my truck that acted that way as well. The throttle setting was too high. I tried out some other settings, along with a different version of the tune (each one of these trucks seem to have a mind of their own), and I found one that works great! Your tuner and paparee should be able to get you all sorted out.

Interesting that it was caused by that. I have probably one of the most aggressive tip in values that any tune has or anyone uses and I don't have any jerkiness. From 0 to 90 is a straight line for me in all gears.

Your are the best, that sounds like a good idea. I will speak with him and not throw the baby out with the bathwater as I really do want to improve upon the crappy OEM programming. Thanks Again.
