I did flush on my transmission and forgot to check dipstick if it was full before I ran the truck around my neighborhood streets.i just remembered and checked it this morning to see the level and noticed it was missing 2.5 quarts. do u guys think I did any damage I already put those 2.5 quarts back in but I'm worried i damaged my transmission. The fastest I went was 25mph around the block and it sounded and felt fine yesterday .

if its AT it should be 0k since you did not go very far or fast,
just keep an eye and ear on it and check the fluid level occasionally
good thing you caught the low level before it was driven more!

If it was and still is shifting alright and not making any noises you’re probably in the clear. I’m not a transmission expert though. I’d say since it didn’t try to lock into o/d and wasn’t driven long or hard then you’re probably ok

I'd say you are fine. The A340 trans is actually pretty tough. And there's actually, like 13 quarts or fluid in there with the torque converter and everything. 2.5 quarts low for half a day, or so, isn't that big of a deal.

You'd have experienced slippage if anything was real bad.

    10 minutes?

Ya, I would absolutely not worry about that. That's actually not even much different than just running it up to operating temp to correctly check the fluid level.

You want to leave it running until (at least) your coolant temp is at normal operating temp... then foot on the brake, slowly go from P to R to D to 2 to L and then slowley from L to 2 to D to R to P (pausing 5 or 10 seconds in each gear) then check fluid level on dipstick.

Dipstick will have two levels.... lower is cold. That is for when filling the trans. It's the minimum amount you should really have in the trans... the upper level is the hot level. The hot level is the one you want.

One more thing. If you have to add fluid you will be filling through the dipstick hole so the fluid will be hard to read on the dipstick if you don't wait a minute or so for any residule on the walls of the dipstick tube to settle.

Letting it run for 15 minutes is no problem

YES, you WANT the engine running while checking/filling transmission.

Last time I filled my trans was when I swapped in this transmission. The truck ran for 30-40 minutes while I checked levels and went through gears and filled the trans.

Don't be worried about letting it run "too long"... the only thing that makes it "too long" is if you run out of gas. You can leave it running as long as you need it to run, to get the fluid level right.

Also, make sure you're on relatively level ground while checking fluid level.

I just did same crap, i changed tranny filter and only had 4 quarts (because everywhere says thats all it takes, WRONG!!). So after hot and running through gears (at..) i saw the level was well below the cool mark while warm.. tried driving to the store down the road but it was real timid about going into 1st gear.. once it grabbed 1st it was fine but only got harder and harder to grab first.. only went 25mph tops and made it a mile before i said nope, and turned back.. was worried i boogered the tranny also.. just did the timing belt, water pump, seals, valve cover gaskets and all that plus oil change and fuel filter (which sucked cuz my dumbass didnt depressurize the system..).. so yea.. also developed a slight tick but think i just overtightened a belt or something cuz it smelled like burnt rubber when made it back.. hoping is only a belt anyway.. and not that tranny.. or the timing belt somehow.. dunno.. is always my luck though.. sonething always comes back to give me a swift kick to the berries..

You’re completely fine. If you drove it for 10K miles yeah you’d probably have issues… around your neighborhood.. lol you’re okay.
