Did any Pro buyers entertain a Raptor?

Not cross shopped a lot but I wanted to hear from others who were entertaining a Raptor and a Tacoma Pro model in particular.

I wanted a Raptor BAD after the new and improved 450 hp 2nd generation Ford Raptor debuted in 2016. I was in the market recently for a new truck so I cross shopped a base model Super Cab Raptor ($57k, only a few options) and a Tacoma TRD Pro.

I first went to my local Ford dealer and test drove a Super Cab Raptor. The ride was simply amazing on crappy, potholed streets and super smooth on nice pavement. I was VERY impressed. I was a bit shocked at the lack of standard features at this price point however. No navigation, tiny display, no heated seats, no keyless entry, no push button start, no BSM, no leather, etc. The biggest cons were also the Ford level of fit and finish, no budging on the MSRP and the fact that it’s a Ford product.

I ended up purchasing a TRD Pro because the ride from the amazing Fox suspension was similar, it comes standard with great technology, the interior looks WAY better and my excellent ownership experience with a 2006 Tacoma DC.

I considered it but could not rationalize the price.

They aren’t even in the same league as far as price and real offroad performance goes. You’ll spend a whole lot more money but get a whole lot more actual benefit with buying a Raptor.

They're all $70k+ around here. I could have bought two TRD OR's for the same price as one Raptor.

Yup, and I also ended up with a pro. Love the raptor, but ultimately was simply too big for my commute / parking down town. I was also having a hard time with the $70k for a truck. (With reasonable options).

Ditto on this. Around here Raptors were marked 20k over as. " market adjustment" laughed my ass across the street and picked up a Tacoma for half that.

I very briefly looked at an F150, but a Tacoma is about as large as I want to go in a vehicle. I drive F150s at work, and they're fine work trucks. They just aren't interesting to me at all, I basically see them as wheelbarrows with engines. They aren't engaging to drive and are so BIG. I much prefer a smaller, more nimble truck for daily use.

Now if I was towing or hauling a lot on a regular basis, I'd give one a harder look. Still probably go with the Tundra or a Titan, though.

Had a first gen raptor with the 6.2 that I bought new. The truck was amazing. Sold it for more than I bought it for. Would have bought a second gen this year, but being in Colorado, a Raptor is too wide. I was jumping my Raptor before I even had license plates. Had plenty of “pinstripes” when I sold it also! Both trucks are fine trucks.

I’ve definitely considered it. I’ll revisit the idea when I can find a 2016+ for under 55k for a fully loaded double cab raptor. At 75k I can’t justify it, I would hate to beat on it and much less use it as an actual truck when the towing capabilities are about the same as the Tacoma’s.

Exact decision I had to make, in the end the raptor being about a foot wider than the Tacoma and the 15k adm I couldn’t do it

I thought about it but then I drive 60+ miles a day in L.A. traffic and visiting the gas station often is not how I like to spend my time.

I almost bought one for MSRP. I had to order it and wait 3-6 weeks though. I think the novelty would have worn off pretty quickly. I'm also glad I didn't since I sold my Evo and my Tacoma became my full time commuter instead. This wouldn't have been as pleasant in the Raptor.

I had a Raptor, put 17k miles on it, got a ticket, and sold it for nearly what I paid for it within a half hour of posting it in Autotrader. Great deal, fun truck. Not worth the $.
Went and bought ‘18 Trd Pro Taco, put 17k miles on it, traded it nearly even up on a 19 Tundra- its similar to a Raptor I feel w/o the suspension, for half price. Also I bought 2 other Toyotas with all that saved $ from not paying for the Raptor. Within a years time..
But then again, I have a Truck problem.
