I have a 2014 Tacoma and i did a retrofit on my headlights with stuff through the retrofit source. I got everything wired up and things were working perfectly. When i started the truck the headlights wouldn't turn off at all. It doesn't matter what you do with the headlight controls they will stay on. When the truck is off you can turn the headlights on and off without issue. Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

Seems like your truck is set to have the headlights operate as daytime running lights. You may have to do some sort of mod to disable that. Not too familiar with Tacomas, so it's just a suggestion.

If you disco the battery and reconnect do they turn back on?

Maybe you wired a constant hot power source on accident?

May be its a retrofail not retro fit. Your relay is malfunction replace it with auto zones relay it may solve the issue, other wise your girl is programmed to to drive with headlights on

I have the base model so I'm pretty sure i don't have an auto headlight feature. I have a moto control wiring harness that is supposed to just basically plug right in and then ground on both sides of the engine bay.

Ok this may sound a little weird but, mine was acting all weird today also. Mine would just turn on after the truck was run and shutoff. After about 20 minutes they would pop back on even the truck was off, as well as the headlights. So I pulled the bulbs out and my drivers side was messed up, aka the blue wire was cracked and a middle section in the bulb was all clouded over. So I'm thinking blown. I'll have to pop in new bulbs to see if that remedies the problem.
For shits and giggles check yours out.

I was thinking it was the motocontroller. Not sure how to check the wiring harness though.:rain:

I'm still watching:thumbsup: I am going to completely redo everything on Wednesday and inspect the wiring harness.

So I finally got the new relay tonight and plugged it in. Problem not solved...:( I also checked were the plug that connects to the factory harness and they were all in the right spot. I'm thinking now it has to be the ballasts. If the ballasts dont solve it..I'm stumped...

Are you side it's not a wide needing swapped on the factory harness bulb connector? Iirc I had to do this on mine. Because they're negatively switched. But not sure how it works on 2nd gens. Maybe email trs?

Just figured out the problem... The wiring harness I have only connects to the factory plug on the driver side and it is sensing that the passenger side is disconnected. It is telling the computer i have a headlight out and it is messing up the relay. The passenger side needs to be plugged in so i am trying to figure out how to get the plug plugged in without actually plugging the other headlight in. The plug needs to sense some sort of load for them to work correctly.

You should see if there's a module you can buy for that. Like mine. But mine only fixes the high beam indicator not lighting up. Not sure if itd work for yours. I think they make some just for that reason. Forgot what they are called. Just a little module that plugs in. Trs might have these too.
