Did 2002 Tacoma's have remote lock key fob?

My 2003 DC Prerunner had a remote lock key fob, but the 2002 DC 4x4 I bought to replace it does not have one. Is it just missing or did the 2002's not have them? Previous owner was second owner and was of no help

 

Not all tacomas were sold with the factory security system (rs3000).

 

I guess the first question is does your 2002 have electric door locks & windows with the door switches? If so, I believe there is a module you can look for to see if the truck came with a remote, but I don't remember where. Maybe you also could input your VIN to a Toyota website to see the list of oem equipment that came on your Tacoma if that's still available.

 

Yes sir it has electric locks and windows. I looked on the Toyota owner's website but there is no information listed as to a remote entry system and I do not have the original window sticker

 

I just bought a 2002 that came with power windows, locks, mirrors according to the original sticker. The previous owner said it didn't have key fobs when he bought it, so he had an aftermarket system installed for the key fobs. It works good. I don't think it originally came with any key fobs as it was very well taken care of and has all the paperwork, keys, etc., but I'm not 100% sure.

I did find out that if I manually unlock either door with the key, it will unlock/lock both doors.

 

Pull your kick panel on the driver's side, if you have the system and the fob is just lost. It will be back there.

 

When I bought my 02 the keyless entry/security system was optional. I didn't want to pay what the dealer was charging so I said no. I later purchased and installed the OEM security system myself which came with 2 fobs.

Look for the security module; if it doesn't have it you don't have remote door locks

Just because you have power windows/power locks doesn't mean you had keyless entry

 

As others have mentioned, remove the kick panel on the driver's side left feet. If it's there you should be able to buy a fob from toyota and program it. That is what I did. I believe it's a crapshoot for 2000 and prior years but should be there for most years after as long as you have power locks and window. You can also enter your VIN into toyota's site and it may come back with it listed.

 

Thanks for the help guys, I'll pull the kick panel and report back. When I put my VIN in Toyota's site the only thing listed as Port installed is the sliding rear tinted glass which I thought was weird. I don't think it has the alarm though because I seem to remember my 03 having a little box by the cigarette lighter that might have said RS3000 or something similar which my new truck does not have

 

That would be the glass breakage sensor that came with the RS3200.

 

My 2002 Prerunner came with one. It also came with power windows, power mirrors, power locks, etc. None of my previous vehicles had any of that so I thought it was a pretty major upgrade when I bought it.

 

My '95 has the power windows and door locks, but no fobs. My brother was the original owner, and never came with any... I checked the kick panels and under the dash, and it doesn't have the security module...

That's one thing I miss, remote door locks...

 

My 2002 off-road trd did not come with a key fob. It does have power windows and locks.
