I had one for a while before I switched to a cap. I wanted something secure to store valuables in so anything soft wasn't an option. I liked it compared to a once piece cover I've had on a previous truck for ease of carrying something higher than the cover itself. I think if you need a secure cover the DB covers are probably the best although expensive option. Being able to put stuff on top of it is awesome too.

    I'm with you...they are pricey!

    But...

From what is shown on the website, they are very strudy/strong depending on your needs.

For typical tonneau cover security, e.g. secure tools, purchased merchandise, groceries...and I'll even add, securing your bed liner (if purchased).

Hard-cover trifolds tonneau covers are more cost effective and versatile. I'm not a fan of the rolling tonneau cover. The tri-fold will block rear window if stowed back with a load.

The SE Diamondback "Rugged" in black would be my choice. The solid look and feel of it differentiates it from any other tonneau cover that I'm aware of.

I guess it depends on how much you feel like committing such an expense when there are other options.

I don't have a Diamond Back but I do have a different trifold tonneau. The problem with all folding tonneaus is they really limit your bed rack options if you decide to go the bed rack route later. I end up taking my trifold off in the summer and mounting my rack...which has already gotten really annoying after just two seasons. I do know Diamond backs specifically work will with Billie Bars mounted, which is cool.

In hindsight, I probably would have gone the retractable tonneau/bed rack route, or a soft topper for more covered storage, that works with a rack than the set up I have now. If you're not interested in a bed rack or anything more than Billie Bars, the Diamond Back is a pretty great tonneau.

But again this is from a guy that doesn't actually own one. :anonymous:

I have a Diamondback SE, no regrets. It is pretty bulletproof, I've had hundreds of pounds on it with no issues at all and I get compliments all the time. It wasn't cheap but its quality and it secures the bed. I've had it installed for more than 2 years and it looks basically new.

It does limit what you can haul, but thats pretty typical for any folding Tonneau really. Also, if you get snow where you live I've found the locks and latches do ice up pretty easily in the winter which can make it a bit of a pain to open if you don't plan ahead.

I also thought about a soft topper as well. I saw they come with compatible racks to go over it which is super cool honestly.

Hijacking thread in 3, 2, 1... That's the the thing I didn't like about most tifolds. I went with a Lomax because it doesn't fold up to cover the back window. Sure, it doesn't expose as much of the bed when folded (just 2/3's) but the folding section does easily come off to expose the entire bed for larger loads.

When I had mine I also had a KB VooDoo rack and the two paired perfectly. So don't let the rack necessarily sway your decision.

Yeah I'm very drawn to those set ups and will probably head down that route next season.

Yeah the VooDoo rack system is indeed super cool. But it is one of the VERY few options that works with folding/hard tonneaus. Limited build options should definitely be considered.

I do think the VooDoo rack is a very cool option but it does have things I personally don't like....mainly the size. The profile is significantly taller and wider to accommodate tonneaus opening. Other than that it's awesome.

Fair point. It wasn't perfect but it worked and was solid.

I have the SE and like everyone says, it is pricey. If I keep the truck 20 years I figure the DB will still be going strong.

I suggest getting the SE model since it is lighter and I don’t think the bed sides will support the on top carrying capacity of the HD model.

The front and rear panels come off easily as well as the center section.

Water will find its way in but not really a big deal. This is water coming from gaps and openings in the bed.

    Satisfied with my purchase.

Very solid. And I don't want to sound at all discouraging of the VooDoo product, it is definitely top teir. In fact they're at the top of the list of racks I'd consider when adjusting my set up.

Now, this is a fair assessment from an owner!

I do plan on keeping my truck for the long haul and I would consider the Diamondback an investment in securing my belongings.

Not looking to load more than 400 pounds on top so the SE being lighter is the perfect choice--plus, it can hold a RTT with proper mounting.

The visual ruggedness looks handsome and very secure. It's an add-on that will have to wait for me.

I have the Diamondback HD cover and absolutely love it. I have since installed the mid-height UpTop Overland bed rack that’s made specifically for the cover which allows it to still open up. It is expensive but it’s also very well made and their customer service is top notch. It has also been very weatherproof in my experience so far. The only time I notice water gets in is when I use a pressure washer on the truck. And even then it’s only a small amount.

if you look in the outlet store section of their website you can often find them for $200 off for minor cosmetic flaws.

I also have an SE and they're totally worth the money. I don't think the HD is worth the premium over the SE though.
