I purchased a "remanufactured" steering rack from these guys in 2020, the attraction being price and a purported lifetime warranty. Part of the deal is you send your old rack back to activate the warranty.

I received not a manufactured Toyota rack, but what was clearly a new knock-off, but I figured I'd go with it, so I installed and returned the core. After all, the truck is 18 years old, and how much longer will I have it, and all those rationalizations.

One year later, rack is leaking, so I call for warranty replacement, but they claim they never got the core. The tracking info shows it was sent so far, but not delivered to Detroit Axle. So, to get a new rack, they "made an exception" and charged me a core fee, they claimed I'd get it back once I returned the faulty rack. OK...

New rack arrives, this time, a Toyota rack that's been gussied up, I cross my fingers and install... so far so good. I return the crappy knock off that leaked, and wait for my core refund. And I wait. I call. Again. I check the tracking info... guess what? It shows it was sent so far, but not delivered to Detroit Axle. I call again, they give me the run around, say they will locate the return and credit me. Couple weeks later, still no refund. I called and ranted, said I'd post about etc... nothing. So I'm posting about it.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice? I think about all the posts here about buying new OEM, spend the money, etc... well, another cautionary tail.

Net: Stay away from Detroit Axle, not worth the hassle, not one bit.

Recently picked up a 2001. The rack has a Sticker says “remanufactured.” Have the receipt from 2015, the shop charged PO $700 —430 rack cost, $270 labor.

Having never replaced one myself, I wonder if its an oem reman, or do they reman the junk ones too?

I did recently install both 555 otre myself due to one being shot. Working well thus far with no problems in the last 25k.

im wondering if there is a way to tell what it is.

I would pony up for an oem either way

Which shipper did you use ??

Did Detroit Axle Send a RGA # and pay the return freight ?

Did you get a RGA # from Detroit axle and pay for the return??

Gotta be a paper trail who ever paid the shipper needs to go after the shipper.

Stuff goes missing gets held up all the time .

    Good Luck

They used FedEx, pre-paid labels. I do have the return order info. They claim to be going after FedEx, and maybe it is a FedEx issue, but 2x in a row seems suspicious to me. Plus, if it is FedEx's fault, they should go ahead a credit me, and take the issue up with them. That would be a better customer experience, especially since the first rack failed.

Don`t get me started on Fed-Ex Ground I can see them dropping the ball.

Fed-Ex ground delivered to Front Door means thrown in the drive way 500' from any door

    best of Luck !!
